Chapter 20

Your POV

You were walking in the forest with Tobi, heading towards the Hidden Mist. Pein had assigned you two to investigate some experiments that have been rumored to make new tailed beasts or people with jinchuuriki abilities. Apparently, all experiments have failed but one. You were extremely curious due to the fact that your mother had been a lab rat for the Mist. So if that successful experiment was by chance your mother, then you can find out more about her and your own abilities, which have always been a mystery in itself. But if anything was to backfire on the mission, you sent a messenger crow to the Leaf to make your whereabouts were known so that maybe the possibility of going home was there. Very slim, but still there.

"I know what you're thinking about." Tobi said in a deeper voice, breaking you from your thoughts.

"Oh really? You're a mind reader now?" You tried to sound optimistic and playful. You had to keep an unsuspecting character around Tobi, you have yet to know his true objectives too. Especially when he is putting on two different faces with you and other people.

"You're wondering about the possibility that your mother could have been the successful experiment that Pein had mentioned earlier. Also, thinking about how to find more information about her. I'm not a mind reader, but when it comes to you, you're so easy to read." Tobi says while grabbing your hand. You blushed just a little bit when he did. You only had eyes for Kakashi, but you still couldn't help the fact that you were with another attractive male and that his presence somewhat reminds you of Kakashi. One similarity they share is the look in their eyes, both hurt and sad, almost as if they both have seen things that have scarred them for the rest of their lives. But as to anything else they shared was completely beyond you at the moment.

"I don't know how to react to that. Should I be happy or mad?" You gave him a small laugh as you got closer to each other while walking.

"I'd say be happy. You look much better that way than upset, I love seeing you smile."

"You're such a flirt, but thank you." You said giving him a closed eye smile. But before either of you could do anything else, you noticed a fog starting to form around you, getting thicker as you continued walking on. Tobi guided you since he knew where the location was. You later found yourself on the top of the hill that looked down to a village in the night sky.

"The Village Hidden in the Mist..." you said as you stared into the village where your parents suffered and tried to escape from. It didn't look terrible on the outside but you knew it would probably be worse when you start the investigation. Tobi looked at you, trying to read your empty expression, but he couldn't tell how you were feeling at all this time. How were you supposed to feel about being in the village that took away your parents? Anger? Resentment? Truth be told, you didn't feel any of that nor sadness. You just wanted some answers.

"We need to find someplace to stay for the night, we can't rush into the investigation so quickly. I know you're tired as well, we did walk pretty far." Tobi said while walking down the hill. You didn't have time to waste on relaxing because you knew the Leaf ninja would be coming here soon, or at least inform the Mist of the possibility of you being in their village.

"I-I'm alright. The quicker we start the faster we can get it done and over with." You said while pulling your arm out of Tobi's grasp. You saw his one visible eye frown before he suddenly grabs your upper arm pulling you closer to him. His grip was tightening due to his anger as he used a lot of strength to cause you to wince at the pain and numbness in your arm.

"That's funny how you think you have a choice. We are staying at a hotel, are we clear?" His grip tightens for the final time, resulting in your eyes to change into your green beast-like ones. You were extremely angry and was in no mood to deal with his abuse. Since you have never witnessed Tobi in battle, you've refrained from ever trying to punch him since you aren't familiar with what he can do.
