My vision clears and I am lying face down in what appears to be my room. I try to move but my limbs don't respond, as if a heavy blanket were laid on top of me. The aroma of smoke fills my nose, though I am not breathing. I try to look around but even my eyes refuse to listen.
This is when I hear footsteps. After a few steps a set of boots appear in my line of sight, there is a slight delay and whoever this person is grabs me by my shirt collar and lifts me until my feet are daggling three inches off the floor. A pale hand extends and turns my head to where my line of sight to where I am now facing a person's face.
His face is expressionless, but his stature reads of boredom. He has high eyebrows, with a long slender nose. His mouth is twisted into a strange smile, as if he were enjoying some private joke. His eyes are the thing that stop my thoughts. One is black, while the other is bright pink with gray spots. His skin is deathly white, as if all the color had been drained out of it as is his hair.
"Ah, you must be Felix. The universe it seems has been waiting on you and your ilk." His voice sounds like honey, sweet but drawn out. "I am sure by now you have realized that you can't move. If you haven't figured it out I will tell you. You are in one of your many possible futures, this particular future, is brought about by you and your ilk refusing to comply, this is a future where you are dead." He smiles politely and shifts his weight. "I am here to ensure that you don't come to this future, I realize that your life may not mean much to you, but I will show you some things that will change your mind about saying no."
All I can think is.
"Say no to what?"
"That question will be answered by another, I cannot say when but it will be within the day. Now let's show you around your room."
He grabs my chin and moves it to where I am looking at my bed. In my bed are my pets all not breathing. Also in the bed is Sierra, her dual colored eyes dead to the world. Though I am looking at something that should infuriate me, I feel nothing, as if I had been hollowed out.
"This is particularly hard for you I know, but we are only just beginning, for your choice affects much more then that of which you hold dear." He says walking through the shattered frame that should be my door. He begins descending the stairs, and turns my head to where I am facing forward. As we get to the bottom of the stairs I realize that most of the bottom floor of my house is decimated.
The walls are torn through with jagged holes, and what is supposed to fill those holes is strewn all over the floor. As I look around the floor I see all of my friends lying there lifeless. He steps forward into the living room and a slight motion catches my attention.
A hand with the last two fingers missing reaches out from under the rubble. With a grunt Danny emerges from under the pile, with a dead Miranda under his other arm. Danny is shirtless, and terribly cut up, there are several deep gashes in his chest, and another that stretches across his face. He looks around and falls on to his face. A figure walks up behind him as he tries to rise again, and in one fluid motion decapitates him. The figure laughs, and walks away.
"You see Felix, you eight are something your world has never known, no one knows why they are chosen or how, but you and your ilk were chosen. If you embrace your destiny, things will not end this way. We have a few more stops, so hold on.. Oh my bad." He says laughing.
The air swirls, and we are standing in front of the white house. The top of the domed building is crumbling, and mostly in ruins. Most of the front of the house is gone, but is somehow still standing. A figure holding the president by the throat steps through the front door, as a loud crack echoes over the still landscape. The building crumbles behind the figure moving the cape enough so that I see a set of polished armor, that gleams like starlight.
The figure jerks his hand in a sick motion and the president falls to the ground lifeless. The figure then turns his back to me and walks away.
"There are a few more things you need to see, so let us go find your mother." The air swirls again and we are standing in a snowy field.
The remains of a large cabin lay in ruins spread out over several hundred feet. A single figure is limping away, with a heavy gash running down her arm. I feel as if my heart should be jumping out of my chest, but again I feel nothing as my mother strides out of the smoke, leaning heavily on a board under her arm.
Three armed soldiers approach her, pulling out short angular swords that resemble roman swords, but with serrated edges on the top side of the blades. Upon seeing them my mom swings the board clipping one of them in the head, and knocking him senseless. She snatches the blade out of the soldiers grip and staggers away from the other two. As she does a fourth soldier steps out from behind a tree, and stabs her through the middle of her chest.
She gasps, muttering something I can't hear, and collapses to the ground.
"You see Felix, your choices will decide the fate of many, make sure you choose right." He says dropping me like a bag of rocks.
"Who are you?" I think to myself as he starts to walk away. "Where's dad?"
"I will answer your questions human, I am Raz, I am as you have probably guessed not from around here. Your father is safe, but only because he is not who you think, your father has no clue that he has no home to return to, but no doubt will find a way into the void, seeking you and your mother. I have kept you long enough, remember my warning when you wake, because this is no dream. Ta, ta Felix, I have a feeling we will meet again soon."
My vision goes dark, and I wake to my shoulder being shaken.
