Chapter 30: Message

I'm in some kind of cockpit, I don't know how I know this but I do. I look around and see all kinds of blinking lights, and buttons with what appear to be Greek writing, but its more flowing than I've ever seen it. I am sitting in a swivel chair, but my body is transparent, my clothes doing the same as before.

"Fantastic, more dream visions." I mutter to myself my voice sounding sluggish.

I hear a hiss, and footsteps behind me, so I swivel the chair around to find myself face to face with Silica. The same confusing joy jumps through me as I look upon her perfect features. She is smiling the same way she has at me every time I've seen her before.

"Ahh." I say trying to move, but nothing happens.

"Hey there." She says brushing her long hair around her ear. "Zeke we got him." She calls looking back. I hear more footsteps, and Zeke enters the room.

"Silica control yourself. There is a lot more at stake than your affections." Zeke says chiding her.

"Don't you start, you have no idea what it's been like for me, I-"

"Silica we have more pressing matters to attend to." Silica scowls and looks away from me.

"We intercepted a message from Tearrance, to his ground troops. He has sent a small detachment to kill or capture you guys. We would help but were still a little ways away, and since retro fiend over here won't upgrade his ship we have to take the long way around."

"I know he's sent a party to find us, but look you have to do me a favor. Tearrance took something from the others, and since he didn't take anything from me, and he got Sierra's brother to play along, I'm guessing that he's got their parents. If Tearrance threatens their parents we will surrender." I say my voice gaining strength as I get to the end.

"We are aware of that, and we will take care of it, Felix just keep yourselves prepared, we can't lose anymore guardians." Zeke says nodding.

"Can do, I don't know if you know, but we made a truce with the Crutelians."

"We're aware, and it's a good thing you did, else Tearrance would already be at your front door. My dad is sending reinforcements to help them, and whatever is left of them will be sent to watch over Earth until you return from helping them." Silica says looking at me fondly. "Felix I'll see you on Earth, but keep your guard up." She turns, but I catch a tear sliding down her face.

"Why are you crying? Certainly I haven't affected you in such a way when we've never actually met."

"I've just had this conversation a lot, and most of my friends that I have had this conversation with died shortly after." She says not turning back to me, and then striding out of the room.

"Silica come talk to him, I'm sorry I was the way I was earlier. I'll give you two a little time, but it won't be much." Zeke says grabbing her wrist, she looks back at him and an unspoken understanding passes between them. Silica steps back in the room and Zeke leaves.

"He's such a good guy." Silica says looking at the floor, and then up to me. She sits down in a chair next to me, and asks. "Felix will you answer a question for me?"

"You might as well call me Fang, since you're risking your neck to help my friends." I say nodding.

"I want you to be completely honest, none of that half truth crap, can you do that for me Fang?" As she says my nickname a roll of energy shoots down my spine.

"I can." I say my voice wavering a little.

"Even if you don't want to admit it?" She asks giving me a small smile.

"I promise to answer truthfully." I say sighing.

"Do you find me attractive?" She asks looking into my eyes with unwavering scrutiny.

"What guy wouldn't?" I ask coughing at the unexpected turn of events.

"I said no half truths." She says adamantly.

"Fine, yes I do, but that doesn't change that I'm with Sierra." I say surprised by the excitement that is evident on her face.

"I knew it, that's a relief." She says sinking into her chair.

"Like I said before, what guy wouldn't?" I ask again.

"Guardians." She says smiling. "Have you noticed that since Saturday you haven't been attracted to some of the girls you were before?"

"Yes." I say my eyes going wide.

"That is how it should be, you and your friends, well maybe not you, but you will find you're no longer attracted to the people you were before, you'll also notice that they will all be attracted to each other. You are a bit of a special case, it happens sometimes. When you become a guardian everything about you is amplified, your body, your personality, your mind. As much as your mind changes it shifts your feelings as well. You like the other rarities throughout the universe, escape the changes on your attraction, we aren't really sure why but the common belief is that if your abilities are too polar then it happens. I'm sure you have no idea what they are, but once you do you'll notice your abilities are either very defensive, or offensive." She says seriously.

"So I'm going to be able to do more than just my strength that I have no idea where it came from."

"Much more, but that's not the point, the point is that you find me attractive, so that tells us you are going to be very useful one way or another. So tell me Fang I'm going to leave this conversation for another time, when I can actually touch you, not that I'm going to, I respect that you are in that relationship. Look to the medallions they hold more than one secret." She says and I fade back into the classroom.
