I stood in the kitchen, leaning over the counter with my hand resting on my head. Ross walked in front of me.

"Funny to see you here" I said as I looked up at him.

"Yeah well uh Nina invited me, and I thought why not" he shrugged.

"Nina invited you?" I asked surprised.

"That's what I said" he snapped. Oh Ross, always so defensive.

Speak of the devil, Nina walked up with a cold beer in her hand. You could still see the sweat dropping down the walls of the can, as her fingers tensed around it, and a look of drowsiness was in her eyes.

She giggled. "Ross you actually showed up, I didn't think you would" she slurred. I'm not surprised she's already a bit wasted. Since the first time she got drunk was when we were fourteen. It was at her cousins sixteenth birthday party. After the party was over we snuck a bottle of vodka in her purse and she drank half of it in her basement that night, where as I only had two sips. Of course.

"Yeah well I had nothing else better to do, so I thought why not see how my good friend Lu is doing" Ross said.

"Obviously you'd have nothing to do on a Saturday night" she laughed and looked at me. "Oh Lucy remember in high school when every Saturday night for like a year he would play Dungeons and Dragons with the mathlete club" Nina said as she slurred the whole paragraph.

She began to laugh hysterically as she slapped her hand down on the counter next to me, which made me jump.

Ross widened his eyes and sighed. "Yeah, anyways I'll be over there. I'll catch ya later Lu" he said as he ruffled my hair around and walked off. He disappeared into the sea of people, which somehow there was always quite a few guests here. The only bare area was the kitchen, which was where I was staked out at.

"What a loser, anyways-" Nina began but then was cut off by me.

"Why are you so mean to him, I mean normally he would have started arguing back but he didn't and he came to your party" I said jumbling the words together. I felt a little bad for snapping at my best friend, but I was upset that she threw this party without my consent and was also almost drunk.

"You don't know what he did to me" she said through a burp. Which was true, she never did really tell me what happened, she always said she didn't want to talk about it and then I eventually forgot about asking.

"Why don't you tell me" I asked as I grabbed her beer to take a drink of it. Why not lighten up a little I thought as I took a sip. It was bitterly sweet and cold, I remembered when I first took a drink of beer only last year at a frat party and some guy asked me to.

"I don't like talking about it, it hurt me so much" Nina said with a change of tone.

"Come on it was years ago, you're over it by now" I said, then taking another swig.

"See that's what everybody told me, just get over it already! But I- I couldn't"

"Nina, don't tell me you're still not over it. Come on, it was your first relationship, you've been in like five since then" I said ruffling my eyebrows together. Could this be why she's always been so mean about him? That she wasn't over it yet?

"I can't tell if I'm not over what he did to me, or if I'm not over him" Nina said, even her slurring has stopped. She sounded sad.

I placed arm around he shoulders. "Can you tell me what happened?"

She took a deep breath in and a large gulp of beer and slammed it down on the table.

"Ross and I were best friends before dating, our dad's were friends and would have us play together when we were kids while they hung out, so we got pretty close and one day just started dating. It was great until about six months later when he was pressuring me into having sex with him, and when I told him I didn't want to, he would go out with my friends and try to get with them. I mean how can I forgive that and let that go? I wasn't enough for him just to love without doing that stuff? I'm never enough for anyone" she said as a tear rolled down her cheek.

"No, Nina you are enough, you know how high school boys are with their hormones, they're dumb" I was so surprised that Ross had done that. I didn't take him as the guy to use girls at all. He was sweet and caring. I was in awe.

She wiped her tear and cleared her throat. "Whatever, you're right it's a long time ago- but it's just, when I found out about all that, I didn't lose my boyfriend, I lost my best friend all at once. The only person who I thought really loved me for me. It was  all a lie and every relationship and guy I'll ever meet will be the same" she huffed as she walked off from me.

I was so surprised I couldn't even speak. I had never seen Nina, one of the most confident girls I had ever met speak like this. I tried to follow her, but she locked herself in her bedroom.

After what seemed like forever of banging on her door I felt a poke on my shoulder. I swiftly turned around to see Ross standing there chewing on his lip.

"What's wrong-"

"You piece of- of- of bastard!" I whisper yelled.

"Piece of bastard?" He asked laughing.

" piece of shit, whatever! Nina just told me what you did to her in high school. That's awful, how could you-" I began to ramble.

"Listen, I know what I did alright, I thought she had already told you. I feel terrible still to this day but she didn't tell you everything did she?" He asked raising his eyebrow. I didn't say anything and he proceeded.

"She was really mean to me in that relationship, she always told me to workout more or would make fun of me or my friends. She would put me down and control me. I know what I did wasn't right and I've apologized, and I still feel bad. But I couldn't break up with her because I loved her so much" he said quietly.

"This is too much" I said raising my eyebrows. This was two sides of my best friends I didn't know about.

The door swung open with Nina standing there, her eyes were puffy and red and it looked like she had tried to fix her mascara. Her hands were shoved down in her pockets.

"I heard what you said" she whispered. "I know I was mean back then, I was just scared of losing you"

Ross smiled. "Nina I loved you, I'm really sorry about what I did but-"

"Maybe you two should talk this out alone" I said pushing them into her room.

"But wait I-" Ross began as I shut the door. This was totally the weirdest night of my life so far. I was in shock almost. And it was about to get weirder when I saw him at the bottom of the stairs.

James.

I know you all wanted Leo in this one but I swear he'll be in the next chapter. I just wanted more of an insight on Nina and Ross's characters. Sorry for not updating in so long. I was going through some stuff and am also very busy with work. I will try and update sooner. Thanks for reading❣️
