Lucas P.O.V

Whenever I see Jessica, I see her. Melody.

Melody is one proof that good people always goes too early. Her bright candle snuffed out too quickly. And I miss her so bad.

She is a bad girl. She is wild. And most of all, she is unpredictable. She does everything spontaneously, without thinking. She is fierce and suits me perfectly.

But at school, she is as shy as a kitten. She is soft and weak. The fierce girl is gone and is replaced by a fragile person that can break with a hard touch.

Melody understands me.

She doesn't run away when I tell her my problems. She actually listens. She cares about me.

And Jessica is exactly like her.

Jess is a firecracker on the dance floor. She moves and acts with confidence. Her presence just captures every passing eye. Jess is acting on impulse alone. She does what she wants and has no regrets.

But at school, she hides all of that. She smiles politely and pays attention to boring lessons. Jess is a good girl at school.

Melody and Jess. Jess and Melody. The line between them is blurring. Melody is Jess. Jess is Melody.

God help me. I won't let her slip away from me again. She left me once and left me shattered and broken-hearted. But now, she's back. And I am not letting her go.

Jesse's P.O.V

The sun is now my worst enemy. It wakes me up when I don't want to be and ruins my relationship with my sleep. Conclusion, the sun is a fucking homewrecker.

I run a brush through my tangled hair and put on a white crop top. I use the same jeans as yesterday and finally decide I'm ready.

"Honey! Someone's at the door calling for you!" mom suddenly shouted. I almost jumped. I hastily put on some sneakers before running down the stairs.

Who could it be? I have no school friends. Or any friends for that matter.

That is when I spotted the black bike parked in my front yard. I groan and contemplate jumping out my window to get to school. But then, my mom would be suspicious.

I give up and go downstairs to the kitchen for a bit of breakfast. I am greeted with the sight of the monster Lucas sitting on the kitchen counter opposite of my tense mother.

I screw on a fake smile and walk in with a cheerful attitude. Mom smiles at me a bit more sincerely. And Lucas just smirks cockily. I clench my jaw.

Deep breaths, Jesse.

"What are you doing here Lucas?" I ask, keeping my tone light. I glared at him for a second before pasting back my smile.

"I want to drive you to school," he says calmly, as if that is a very normal thing. I raise an eyebrow, my smile gone.

"I can walk to school myself, thanks," I say. I grab an apple from the counter before walking past him to the door. But he grabs my shoulder and stops me.
