*One week later*

Evan and Connor became much closer as the week progressed.

Connor had only known Evan for a week, but damn.

That boy was cute.

Connor learnt that Evan had social anxiety, which was one of the reasons why he had a stutter. He'd also remembered some of his nervous tics.

Whenever Evan felt anxious (which was often), he would do things such as play with the bottom of his shirt, and pick at loose threads on his cast. He would also go red in the face a lot and he would stutter in virtually every sentence he spoke.

Evan Hansen was adorable, and Connor was surprised that the boy was oblivious to his huge crush.

Anyway, Evan had liked Zoe for years. A crush like that doesn't go away quickly. He'd have to get over her first.

But even if Evan wasn't straight, would he even like him? Because, face it, who would? He was covered in scars (but Evan didn't know this), suicidal (Evan didn't know this either) and just generally unloveable.

Connor was surprised that Evan wanted to be his friend.

So there Connor was, sitting on his bed, contemplating whether or not to go to school.

The pros of not going?

He didn't have to listen to the stupid lectures and learn things he already knew/ useless things he would never use in life, and also wouldn't have to deal with dickheads like Jared Kleinman making school shooter jokes and things like that.

The cons?

He wouldn't get to see Evan.

Connor heard his phone vibrate a few times from his bedside table.

3 New Messages from Tree Boy 🌲💙

Tree Boy 🌲💙: Morning Con!

Tree Boy🌲💙: Are you coming to school today?

Tree Boy🌲💙: Because it's totally cool if you're not, sorry for bothering you. I must be really annoying.

Connor rolled his eyes and composed a new message.

Connor: Hey tree boy.

Connor: Not sure yet, still deciding.

Connor: Also, shut up. You're not annoying.

Tree Boy 🌲💙: Oh, okay.

Tree Boy 🌲💙: You probably should come, though. Your grades will suffer.

Tree Boy 🌲💙: You don't want your grades to suffer, do you?

Tree Boy 🌲💙: Think of the grades and their wellbeing! What'd they do to deserve this?

Tree Boy 🌲💙: Poor grades 😢.

Connor laughed.

Connor: That sounds like something amy santiago would say.

Tree Boy 🌲💙: Well, you're being such a Jake Peralta because you're being so immature.

Connor: Peraltiago.

Tree Boy 🌲💙: Shut up.

Tree Boy 🌲💙: Just... Come to school, Connie.

Connor: Don't call me Connie.
