"What do you mean, 'it's gone'?" Evan exclaimed.

Heidi threw her arms in the air. "I don't know! They said someone hacked into the system and took your money! Evan, I'm so sorry."

"It's not your fault, mom. It's okay."

"No, it's not! They took your money, Evan! Those systems are hard to hack. Who do you think might have taken it?"

Evan thought for a moment. There was someone he knew who was amazing with computers, but he wouldn't take his money... right?

He sure had a motive. He might have wanted the money to give it to Isaac; impress him, buying his way into a relationship.

But surely Jared wouldn't do that to him.

However, he wasn't sure about anyone anymore. He had learnt that people aren't always how they seem.

"I-I don't know, mom," he said sadly.

Heidi sighed. "Don't worry, honey. We'll get it back, and I'll hurt the asshole that took it."

"Thanks, mom," he said, Heidi kissing his head.

A couple of days later, Evan went back to school. The weekend was over, feeling like it had only lasted a few seconds as usual.

Evan walked down the hallway at school, a few people congratulating him as he passed.

He got to his locker and threw his bag in, getting out his books when he felt a tap on his shoulder.

Evan turned around, holding some of his books, to see Jared standing there excitedly, both hands on each backpack strap.

"Hey, Hansen!" He exclaimed. "Guess who got a boyfriend!"

"You asked Isaac out?" Evan asked excitedly.

"He asked me out, actually."

"That's great, Jared," he smiled.

"Speaking of asking people out, where's Connor? You guys are usually attached at the hip."

Evan sighed. "Jared, I-"

"Oh! There he is!" Jared said, gesturing down the hallway.

Evan looked in that direction. He saw Connor, looking dead on the inside and outside.

He had bags under his eyes and walked with his head down, as to avoid any eye contact.

Jared cupped his hands over his mouth. "Hey, Con-" he began to yell.

"Jared, no!" Evan pulled his hands away from his mouth.

"Why not?" Jared asked. Evan looked to the floor sadly. "Oh god, what happened?"

Evan sighed. "He cheated on me. With Isabel."

Jared grew angry. "That motherfucker... don't worry, that dickhead doesn't deserve you anyway."

Evan smiled at Jared's encouragement, but as soon as he saw Connor trying to stop tears from falling, it faded and he began to wonder.

Maybe he was telling the truth.

There was only one way to find out.
