The boys' spirits had been lifted after the trip to the ice cream shop, and they were all feeling happy by the time they reached home, almost forgetting that their parents were back home.
But of course, everything is always calm before a storm.
When the boys arrived home their parents were still at the office as the house was empty. This gave Liam peace to get a dinner ready for the boys and to make sure that Louis and Zayn had made a start on their homework.
He unbuckled a sleeping Niall from his car seat and cradled him to his chest while he walked inside. Louis helped Harry out of his seat and then took his hand, leading him into the house while Zayn walked a couple of paces behind by himself.
Niall woke up as Liam carried him into the house which Liam expected as Niall had already had his nap. So Liam placed Niall in his baby walker - which was quite a struggle as the baby wanted to be extremely clingy - and started to make dinner.
"Lou!?" Liam shouted, trying to gage the location of the boys in the house.
"Yeah Li?" Louis responded from the living room. He was sitting playing with Harry and Zayn.
"What do you want to dinner?"
"Can we have a curry?" Louis asked while Liam contemplated it for a minute.
If he made curry, he would have to make a separate meal for Niall, Harry and potentially Zayn since they didn't like spicy things and that's how Louis and Liam liked their curries. Looking in the cupboard, Liam found a packet of macaroni pasta sitting beside the rice and decided he'd make macaroni and cheese too.
"Sure!" He shouted to be heard over the giggles that were coming from the living room.
Liam enjoyed cooking, not that he had much of a choice. He always seemed at peace when he cooked and loved to have the radio on and sing along to the songs while he does so. He boiled two separate pots of water and placed the rice in one and the macaroni in the other. He then got to work on making a curry sauce and cutting up some chicken.
By the time both meals were ready, Liam heard the door opening. He sprinted out into the hallway to see who it was and was met with Harry opening the door.
"Harry you know you're not meant to open the door." Liam scolded the younger boy as they both moved out of the way to let their parents in the house.
"Leave him be Liam, he's old enough to be out on his own anyways, like when he walks home from school." Geoff dismissed and Liam cringed as Harry opened his mouth.
"I don't walk home from school." Harry stated and Liam sighed. "Katherine or Liam pick me up." Geoff raised his eyebrows at Liam but left the topic alone.
"Something smells nice!" Karen exclaimed as she shut the door behind her upon entering the house.
"It's dinner mum." Liam said as he helped his mother in with her briefcase.
"Is dinner ready yet Li?" Louis appeared at the doorway holding Niall.
"Yeah Boo, go have a seat at the table. I'll be in in a minute to put dinner out." Liam said as he entered his parents' office to place his mum's briefcase on her desk.
Soon Liam returned to see his mum, dad, Louis, Niall and Zayn all sat at the table, his little curly haired brother missing.
"Where's Harry?" Liam frowned, he'd only been away for a minute, what could his parents have done in that short amount of time to upset the boy.
"The toilet. He needed to go before dinner." Karen said from where she was sitting... in Harry's seat.
Harry skipped into the kitchen, wiping his hands on his jeans but froze the minute his eyes landed on his occupied seat. He looked at Liam warily and then back at his mum. Geoff, who was starting to get impatient, huffed.
