Later that morning, while the girls were taking a nap, Nick received a call from Paul. "Hey, man. How are the girls?"

"They're trying to finish some old game Anya introduced them to. So far they're halfway through it," Nick said offhandedly. "How is Pam?"

Paul took a deep breath. "She's getting there but the baby is in breech position. He just won't turn, your cousin is not yet here and will probably arrive later tonight. It seems one of your cousins just had a baby and she will be back either later in the afternoon or tonight."

"Will Pam be able to wait?" Nick asked.

"The doctors are with her round the clock. In any case, she will be given a c-section if it becomes necessary. So far she wants a natural birth."

"So what do you want us to do?" Nick asked.

"Could you keep Sheila occupied for a while?" he asked.

"Your daughter has the right to know about her mother. She's worried about Pam."

Paul sighed heavily. "I know. That is why I want her distracted."

"I'll hurry Brenda. I'm sure my mother can do something about it."

"Nick, I don't want to impose."

"No, you are not imposing. You have been taking care of my wife all these years, especially when I've been an idiot."

"If you feel that way. I'll tell Pam." Paul said and ended the call.

Nick glanced at his sleeping wife. Whatevet secret she was keeping now will have to wait.

Anya was working in her study when Nick entered. He appeared to be deep in thought and didn't notice Anya holding their divorce papers. "Is there something wrong?"

"I want to take Nicolette, us, camping in Texas."

Anya instanly frowned, "In the dead of winter? Is that wise? I mean it will be too cold and... We'll be in the woods. I don't want to risk the two of you getting sick."

"It will be just for one night," he said.

She slipped the document in an envelop and narrowed her eyes at him. "One night, in the middle of winter in Texas where there are wild animals and what not."

He pulled her to her feet. "I will make sure we will be safe. We will take a few of the ranch hands to make it more authentic and safer." he wrapped her arms around her and kissed her forehead. "Please? I do this all the time. I promise I will watch out for you and Nicolette."

Her brows shot up. "Nicolette and me?" she repeated. "I thought you wanted this bonding experience together."

He kissed her lips softly making her bite them a second after. "I want all of us together since this will be our first new year as a family."

Anya looked away, it was also their last day together. She nodded, she clenched her jaws and forced the pain away. "I like that. We can lose the other ranchers. We don't have to stay in some far away meadow to camp in. We can choose  maybe a backyard close to an actual flushing toilet and that's close to civilization?" she asked.

His smile was so beautiful, it broke her heart it will be one of the last few time she will see it up close. He bent is head down and kissed her again. "If you wish it so," he whispered against her lips and lifted her onto her desk causing her to gasp. "I have always imagined doing something quite unprecedented here," he said wickedly and pushed her things away.

"Nick!" she shrieked as the man put her entire filing system in jeopardy.

His reply was to simply laugh and claim her lips for a deep drugging kiss. Anya's last coherent thought was that she wished their divorce papers would land itself in the fireplace so Nick will have a fine time filing one.
