"Hanna you might slow down a bit." Tyler said making sure his belt was on as tight as it could go. With the road being wet and Hanna going 20 mile per hour over the speed limit, he felt like he was going to have his life flash before his eyes. "Hanna you should really slow down."
"Calm down. I won't kill us." Hanna laughed as she passed a semi truck. "We're almost there anyways." It was only another couple of minutes before Hanna turned off the main road and onto a very muddy road that led through a hay field.
"They really know how to put farms out in the middle of nowhere don't they." Tyler sighed as the hay field continued, it seemed like it would never stop when they came to a stop in front of a large red barn. Hanna grabbed a large bag out of the back seat while jumping from the truck and running to through the man door of the barn. Tyler was frozen there for a moment not sure if he was to follow or not, it was almost weird to not be in charge or be told what to do. He sat there long enough for the windows to fog over and for the rain to get so heavy that it hurt his ears as it smacked the truck.
He was startled when the door opened Hanna standing there soaked from the rain, he could smell blood; she had a worried look on her face and he could feel that she wasn't sure of what to do. "What's wrong?" Tyler grabbed her blood stained hands feeling how cold they were.
"Do you think you're strong enough to put the calf's leg back into place? It's so bad that I can't put a splint on it without getting it back and we can't get it. You're also going to get hypothermia sitting in this thing." Hanna said grabbing another bag from the back seat, it sounded as if it had power tools and metal objects inside.
"I can give it a try." Tyler knew he could.
They walked to the barn stopping at a stall with a mare and foal, who was still learning to stand. Hanna rubbed his head getting what sounded like a pur from him. "You'll be a good horse for a little kid when you get older." Hanna commented to him grabbed an apple and holding it out to the mother who happily bit into it. Tyler watched seeing how at peace she was, like this was where she was meant to be.
He didn't notice as she started to walk away from the mother and son to the end of the barn where you could see a small calf laying. Tyler jogged up next to her as she make it to the calf, "Has the anesthetic started working?"
"Seems to be," an old man said moving the calfs head, it's tongue was hanging out of the side of its mouth. "He's just about out." He set it's head back down on the bed of hay as Hanna kneeled down.
"Okay, Tyler, I need you to gently grab his leg a pull just to make sure that he's out and doesn't feel it." He was nerves. Sure he's put his friends and self back together after a fight, but never a harmless animal. He grabbed the clearly broken leg and pulled a slowly as he could. When the calf didn't move Hanna nodded at him to continue pulling.
"So run by me how this happened." She looked at the farmer, who sighed and shook his head.
"He liked to cause trouble always getting his head stuck in the fence or something. He was out by the side of the barn when my boys were throwing bails down, one hit him in the head and he freaked out. Damn cow ran around for a good five minutes before he ran into the bulls pin somehow and got stomped. It wasn't bad looked like he just sprained it at first, then he got another bail thrown on him and that did it."
Tyler had the calfs leg put back into place and was holding it as Hanna began to put metal polls on either side. After wrapping it with a layer of gauze and cleaning the skin she cut so they could see to set the bone back into place; she grabbed a roll of duct tape and wire from her back give Tyler gave a funny look at.
"Best way to hold it, it'll have to be changed in a in a day or two." She wrapped wire around the polls before covering that in duct tape. "He'll be down for a couple more hours, we'll have to watch him when he wakes up to make sure he doesn't try to stand on it. He's going to need at least a week before he can stand on it, even with the splint."
"I really do appreciate this Hanna, I wouldn't of known what to do if you couldn't of come."
"Not a problem Mr. Morris. I got a great Colt from your stud and you helped my old man out more times than I can remember." She gave the old man a hug. You could see that the two had known each other for a long time, the look the old man gave Hanna was a look that made him seem like he was seeing her father through her.
"He did just as much for me." The old man laughed. "Come on inside, I'm sure Madi's got hot chocolate ready."
"In a minute gonna clean up real fast." He nodded leaving Hanna and Tyler standing there. As he exited the barn Hanna fell to her knees giving a sigh. She started to put her things away moving the bags to the side into an empty stall.
"You look so at peace here." Tyler said sitting down next to her.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, I've watched you with your animals, but it's different." Tyler had to stop and think about it. "It's like you're content. Maybe that isn't the right word..."
"That would work, I feel amazing when helping other people. When helping animals that I don't see all the time. I love taking care of mine, but it's a different feeling when helping others." She looked over seeing the foal take another try at standing seeming to get it as he leaned into his mother getting a strong drink of milk from her.
Tyler understood what she meant, helping his friends, with whatever problem they had, was always so much more satisfying then just helping himself. When the show started and everyone just started connect, it made Tyler feel like he then had a purpose. Then the day that Tyler found out that T-Pose was a wolf, he knew that helping him learn was going to be a life changing experience. He didn't know what it would all lead too, but it's come to a really nice place and he likes it. He loves it.
