We sat in Grillby's for a few minutes in silence. It wasn't until Sans was halfway done with his mustard that I began wondering about the other skeleton from the park. Maybe they didn't know each other at all and just happened to pass each other. They walked away with each other, though. Usually, strangers wouldn't walk with each other. Monsters could be different, though. What was the harm in asking?
I turned to Sans and asked, "Who was that other skeleton from the park? Do you two know each other?"
Sans chuckled slightly. "that was papyrus. we're brothers. if you hear me call 'em boss, it's because he makes me call him that." Papyrus made Sans call him that? Why would he do that? The fact that Sans had to call Papyrus that made it sound like Sans was working for Papyrus and he was being forced into the job.
"Why would he make you call him that?" I asked Sans. At first, all he did was look at me and chuckle. "What's so funny?" I asked him, slightly annoyed that he would laugh at me and not give me an answer.
"do i really have to explain it to ya, doll?" He asked me. "boss was the commander of the royal guard that protected the underground. he makes me call him that because he thinks that he should be called that as a form of respect." I must have looked confused, because Sans then said, "if you ever meet him, you will understand, doll face."
I wasn't sure if I wanted to meet him after that. Anyone that was a commander of an army had to be threatening. Then there was the fact that he made his brother call him 'boss'. If someone wanted to be called by a name as formal as that, they had to be serious about their job. Maybe it was best to stay away from Papyrus for now.
After a few more minutes, Sans finished his mustard and I finished my burger. "put it on my tab, grillbz. i will pay it off later." Sans told Grillby. Grillby gave Sans a look that was not trusting, but put it on Sans's tab anyways. Did Grillby know Sans was most likely never going to pay off his tab? If so, why did Grillby continue to put more money on Sans's tab? With those questions, I put the thought aside and decided to say my farewells to Sans.
"see ya' later, sweetheart." Sans said, beating me to it. "Bye, Sans." I said back to him, still wishing he did not use those pet names. Then again, there were worse names to be called. At least he didn't use those names. They were much worse.
After Sans left, I could hear the other people who were eating as they whispered to one another. "Wasn't that one of the monsters?" A lady by the door had asked.
"Yeah, that was. You know, I expected them to be bumbling idiots. They lived underground for so long that they missed out on new technologies." A man that was sitting with the lady said. The man and woman must have talked to a monster because they talked about monsters in past tense when talking about how they expected them to be. I wondered which monster they met, but I didn't want to let them know that I was listening. In this world, people can not trust one another. That is just life.
That wasn't a bad idea for a plot line. People who can not trust each other, so they must survive by themselves. No social interactions at all. Perhaps there could be one person who wanted different, though. It was a great idea. My writers block was beginning to disappear. Now, I could finally go home and do my job.
With new ideas on writings and meeting Sans once again, I was fine for the day. Maybe I would meet other monsters in the future. Perhaps it would be Papyrus. Only time would tell about what happens. I almost hoped to see him, but at the same time, I did not want to see him. He seemed dangerous.
I began to go home. Life was fine for me today. Now, it was time to work. Work was the important part of everything at the moment. It was time to do it.
