One day, at another elementary school, known as Willoco Prep, the school day had finished, and out came the students... Including one with black hair and emerald green eyes. Her name was Delilah Wilson, and today was her tenth birthday. When she came home, her mother, Nora Wilson, went up to her and said, "Happy birthday, Delilah! There's a birthday present for you in your bedroom."
"What is it?" Delilah asked.
"I don't know," Nora answered, "I guess we'll just have to go up there and find out."
They went up to Delilah's bedroom, and Delilah found a little blue box tied with a purple ribbon on her bed. She opened it and found a beautiful necklace! It had a purple cord and a swirled red jewel. Delilah looked on in amazement. "The necklace that you wore when you were my age?"
"It's been in the family for generations. You see, when a family member who wielded the necklace grows up, they get married and have only one child. Me, your grandfather, your great-grandmother... We've all worn the necklace, and now... You will."
In gratitude, Delilah embraced her mother. After that, Nora said, "Alright, we'd better get ready."
"For what?" Delilah asked.
"We're gonna be visiting your grandparents to celebrate your birthday, silly," Nora replied as she playfully tousled Delilah's hair. She left her daughter's room and called her husband, Alair. "Hey, Alair, you haven't forgotten about celebrating Delilah's birthday, have you?"
"What kind of father would forget about their own kid's birthday?" Alair Wilson answered from work, "I wouldn't miss it for the world. How are we gonna celebrate?"
"You remember my parents, right?"
"Of course I do. What kind of husband would forget about his own wife's family?"
"Well, we're gonna be visiting them."
"Delilah always did love visiting relatives. Anyway, I'd better get back to my job... or I might lose it."
"Okay. Bye, sweetie!"
A few hours later, Alair came home from work and asked, "Where's my little girl?"
Delilah came downstairs in an entirely different outfit: a white dress, a blue cardigan, lavender leggings, black leather boots, a purple headband, matching bracelets, and her birthday necklace. "How do I look?"
"Adorable!" Alair answered. "Let's go!" They all headed out the door!
