Chapter Thirty One
Bates' old picture of Madison when they first met after culinary school. Enjoy!
He looked at me with hooded eyes, they were curious as to why and how I'd know about Madison much less her name.
He didn't answer me as his eyes shifted away from me and looked out of the window with a smirk playing on his lips. We were a block away from his flat, maybe I should have waited until we got inside to bring this up to him but it's too late now. The driver pulled up to the curb and we both got out heading toward the elevators as he took my hand leading me inside.
"Madison is an ex girlfriend. Well, a psychotic ex girlfriend." He said as he walked closer to me as we rode the elevator. "Wait, do you know her?" He asked dipping his eyebrows.
"Not exactly, but I think she may know who I am and I'm not sure that's a good thing." I answered him. He just looked into my eyes without saying anything, like he was remembering something from the past or something was bothering him. "We're going to get to the bottom of this, I want to know how she knows you." A worried look crossed his features as he fished his keys from his pockets unlocking the door then locking it behind us as usual.
I went into his bedroom to slip into some pajama bottoms and a tank as I heard him yell from the kitchen, "would you like a glass of water or some wine, sweetie?"
"Wine would be fine." I answered. I would definitely need something to take the edge off if I'm going to tell him about this bitch. I walked into the living room and rested on the couch when I saw him carrying two glasses and a bottle. "Then I will join you." He said as he sat in the chair across from me placing the wine bottle between us on the table.
"Do you want some take out tonight? I was thinking maybe Chinese." He asked. "I don't eat Chinese food." I replied smiling. His mouth dropped open and it made me chuckle.
"What kind of person doesn't eat Chinese? Everyone loves Chinese, Quinn." He asked. "Apparently me. I've tried it a few times, but never liked the taste really."
"Okay, can someone please switch her out, I think this one's defected." He yelled into the air playfully and I started to giggle as I threw a pillow at him. "Now I know there must be something that you don't eat that everyone loves."
"Watermelon. I hate it and there you have it." He said as a matter of factly. "And you call me defected. Even babies love watermelon." I replied. "Yeah, and even normal babies eat Chinese food." That made me laugh even harder at his goofiness.
"I was thinking of something easy, hot and fast....like pizza." I said trying to keep my laughing down. "Whoa, sounds like someone has their mind elsewhere."
We were having so much fun, I had almost forgotten what he wanted to talk about.
Almost.
He called the local pizza joint and ordered us a few pizzas as we drank a few more glasses of wine.
"So, how do you think that Madison knows you again?" He asked as if he knew what I was thinking. I've been holding this in for so long I'm not even sure where I should start.
"She called me one day. Actually two days ago by accident I think." I replied. My heart was starting to beat faster, what the hell is he going to think when I tell him what this crazy bitch did? "After your accident, she pocket dialed me."
"I haven't the slightest clue as to how she could possibly know you though." He was definitely puzzled. "I know, I wondered the same thing, I thought maybe she had the wrong number, I was about to hang up until I heard your name." I leaned forward resting my elbows on my knees.
