Chapter 16
I shut the door behind Josh and I, following the others down the hall.
"What took you guys so long?" Ryder asked. I looked at him with a glare.
"Don't. Ask." I reply. He chuckles. We continue down the hall and take the same route as last time.
"Alright. Tyler, Ryder, you two are going to attack. Josh you're with me." They nod and we all split up.
Josh and I make our way back to the north side of the building.
"Hero?" I look over my shoulder at him.
"Yeah, Josh?"
"What's going to happen to us if this plan fails?" He whispers. I see his eyes fill with sadness.
"Josh, I'll be honest. I have no idea what comes after this. All I'm hoping for is that this plan pays off." There's a distant sound of something dropping. In a blink of an eye, our guns are aimed and loaded. We extend the weapons ahead of us as we make our way down the hall and scour until we find the cause of the sound. A bloody hammer. Our guard falters when there's no sign of others.
"What the hell?" Josh asks. I cover my mouth to block the stench as we make our way down the hall. The stench just grows as we head further north. Finally, we reach the end of the hallway which holds seven rooms on each side. The wallpaper is torn, the greenish colour is starting to turn to gray, the tiles are chipped and falling apart, and there's cracks in every door. Overall, it looks like something from a horror movie.
"What is this place?" Josh asks.
"You ask way too many questions."
"Well you seem to know all the answers. But that didn't answer my question." I roll my eyes.
"It's the infirmary." I state.
"How are you so sure?" I point above my head at a sign that reads, with tearing paint, 'infirmary'. His mouth makes the shape of an 'O' as he nods. "Fair point." I nod.
We make our way into one of the rooms and find a rotting corpse. I gag.
"That's gross." Josh mumbles. I ignore him as I head toward a sheet of paper sticking out of the decaying body. I reach to grab it as Josh stops me.
"Josh, let go." I demand. He shakes his head.
"Hero, what do you expect to find in that note? A peace offering?" I shake my head.
"Of course not, Josh. But this could help solve everything." Using my other hand, I reach and grasp the sheet of paper in my fist, sticking it into my pocket. Let's go find this guy." I walk out of the infirmary with my head held high.

We reached the south entrance as the others came down the hallway.
"Anything?" I call. They shake their heads. I sigh deeply.
"We need to find the room than." I declare. They nod. As i begin to map out the halls which we took last time, the room appeared at the end of the hall.
"C'mon!" I bolt ahead and enter. They soon fall into the room behind me. Their mouths form an 'O' shape. I walk over to the bedframe again and place a gentle hand upon it's resting sheets.
"Josh, does this not look familiar to you?" I glance over my shoulder. He looks around, focusing on the details.
"It's oddly familiar." He mumbles. I glide my fingers ou the surface of the sheets and come across a tiny bump underneath. My eyebrows furrow as I pull back the blankets and a shiny envelope. Josh hovers over my shoulder as his eyes scan the now opened paper. Our dearest daughter and sons,
By the time you read this, it will already be too late for us. You need to make sure not to give Greg the secret fortune location, or even tell him about it! Those files we left behind were the biggest clue you could get handed, however, your Aunt Jane has been working with us to keep the fortune hidden well. We've kept it far enough from Greg that he's hunted us down and killed us, and now he's trying to do it to you. You mustn't worry for this note will show you the way.
We know that you may never forgive us for all the lies but those birth certificates aren't true. You are our not Greg's kids. We want you to know that after all of this, it will be hard to imagine what your lives were like before all of this crap happened. Please just remember we love you all.
We have raised you right and you shall not show greed when you find what the 'X' leads you to. This must not be read aloud for it is far too dangerous and risky.
We wish you luck children as you will need every last drop.
Your Truly,
Mom and DadTears form in my eyes. I fold the paper and put it in my jacket's pockets.
"Let's go." I state. Josh lays a gentle hand on my shoulder.
"Hero, are you okay?" He asks. I wipe my tear-stained face and harshly shake his hand off.
"Fine. Perfectly fine." My walls were shattered but the construction has just finished.
