Chapter 18
I send a nod in the directions of Josh and Ryder as we enter the round room where Greg and Tyler are still biting at each other's throats. We each clock our guns silently as we start to form a triangle around the two bickering men. Once we're in position, Greg stops his comebacks to turn and look at us all. Tyler starts back ing toward the space between me and Ryder as I toss him a hand gun. He catches it with ease, not taking his eyes from Greg. Greg chuckles, shaking his head.
"You really are a smart girl, Hero."
"I try." I state. He puts his hands come up in surrender as he feels cold metal manifest of Ryder's gun at his temple. I nod at Ryder and we continue to Greg's office with Josh and Tyler behind Greg, guns still clocked and aimed in case he tries anything. I walk ahead making sure there is no one around before opening the double door s to the office. I walk in and grab Greg, dragging him through the doors toward his giant oak desk as someone slams the door s shut. I whip around to catch a glimpse of Victor before everything goes black. The last thought on my mind is it can't be.
***
I wake up to black. My mind is swirling, and it feels like a giant hangover. I can't remember where I was, what I was doing or even how I got here. It's all just like a blank slate.
I try to pick up my hands but there seems to be a weight on them (which I suspect to be chains). The room fills with clicks and clangs of metal on metal as I bring my feet towards me. The more I move the louder it gets. I grunt with effort as I lift myself off the ground, standing up straight.
I place my hand on the wall for balance as I take in what I can see; which is basically just torn wallpaper. There's no light source and there seems to be only one way in but it's on the other side of the room and I don't necessarily think that my legs would be able to carry me that far based on my circumstances.
I wrap my wrists around the chains, gripping them tightly as I attempt to make it across the room, dragging them behind me like a burden. I grind my teeth with effort as I almost get to the door before it bursts open and two men march in. One older and the other looks around my age.
"How was your rest, my dear?" The elder one asked. I remain silent for I don't recall anything before waking up in this place. Not to mention it smells like sewer.
The younger one steps forward, reaching out his hand. I shy away from the touch as his eyes fill with guilt. Why? I question to myself.
"Hero. It's me, Victor." I squint my eyes as I look each of them over. I shake my head as memories flash through my eyes.
"I don't know who you are or what you want, but, you have to let me go." I look between them. They share a look of disappointment as they look back at me.
"Do you remember anything?" The elder one asks. I look him in the eye and they seem to light up with greed. Emptiness. That's all I feel when I see it.
"No." I reply bluntly. His eyes narrow as we walks towards me. I see Victor's eyes widen in terror as the older male lifts his hand. Before I know it, I'm mimicking the actions as I feel a sting on my left cheek. I bend slightly to be able to cover it. I look back up at him with tears forming in my eyes. His gaze softens for a moment but it's gone as quick as it came.
"Look here, Hero. If you're just trying to protect the fortune and your little gang, then you're more selfish than I thought." I look at the wall over his shoulder as more images pass through my mind. Ryder. Tyler. Josh. Anne. Anne! I still have in the earpiece! I can feel it! And just like that, everything comes rushing back.
"I don't know what you're talking about!" I shriek at Greg, continuing the act. He nods and walks up to Victor, mumbling into his ear. Victor's head snaps towards Greg before his gaze hits the ground and he nods slowly. Greg looks once more over his shoulder and makes his way to the door. I focus on the earpiece in my ear and hear silent mumbling and typing. I see Victor making his way towards me and everything coming from the earpiece goes silent. He gets right into my face as he whispers, his breath fanning against my ear, "I'm not dead yet." He leans back with a devious smile before everything goes black once more.

I groan as I wake up again but in a lit up room. I shake my head as I regather my thoughts. I move my hands to find they're not chained this time. I smile slightly as I rub the rust stains from the other room. I rise to my feet and stretch my arms, deciding to walk around a bit. As I walk around the square room, I notice two cameras, pointing in two different directions. I tilt my head slightly and figure out both's weak spot.
A door opens to my left and Victor and Greg once again step through, except this time, more bulky men follow after bringing in a lot of different gadgets, setting them all on a metal rolling table. I look at them all skeptically as I walk over to the small metal table. I glide my index finger along the edging as I steal a glance at Greg and Victor, who are now the only other two in the room.
"Hero, you have forgotten who you are. Now we're going to take it upon ourselves and show you the person you born to be." Greg states as he makes his way over to the table as well, standing opposite me. "I see right now that you are confused as to what this whole get-up is about."
"Don't be so quick to judge me. You only see what I show you." I reply. He smirks and chuckles.
"Even mindless you still have the same level of sarcasm." He shakes his head. I place my hand over my heart as I fake a shocked look.
"Me? Sarcastic? Never." He looks at me with a look of unamusement. I just shrug it off and start examining the dagger that is sitting in the middle of the guns and knives along with other weapons the bulky guys carried in.
"These weapons are from my personal archive," He gestures down at the table. "They're worth a few grand separately. However, I'd like to train you with something more expensive so that you have motivation to not break anything." He smiles slightly in my direction as he starts paving the small wall.
"In a few moments, there will be men coming in with mats, dummies, punching bags as well as multiple targets for your training practice. Victor will be your trainer so I suggest you get to know him better." Greg turns to Victor with a slight nod and exits the room. Once he's gone, Victor let's out a deep sigh. I spare a risky glance in the directions of the cameras to see me standing in the advantage points. I laugh internally as Victor glances towards the cameras as well. I decide to play dumb and follow his stare. I gasp and force my eyes to widen.
"You were spying on me?!" I exclaim sarcastically. Victor looks between me and the camera, stuttering over his words.
"It can't really be defined as spying if you're our prisoner." He slaps a hand over his mouth and does a facepalm.
"WHAT?!" I scream. He covers his ears as the door basically bursts down. Greg, now standing there with his face as red as a tomato, glares at Victor who couldn't look more ashamed.
"I think that's enough of the getting to know each other. So which weapon would you like to try fir-" He begins.
"None. Not when I got kidnapped by a bunch of psychos." I start for the door. Greg moves a few steps ahead of it, blocking me.
"You aren't leaving until you train." He states sternly. I narrow my eyes.
"Watch me." I move around him, ramming my shoulder into his. I make my way out of the room and fake turn the corner. I hear them arguing silently and I peer into the room out the corner of my eye, seeing that they're not facing my direction. I smirk and slam the door shut, locking it right away, taking the key and going to the window at the end of the hall, chucking it as far as I can. I turn and see that it's a dead end hallway so I make my way back to where I began.
Walking past the locked door, I hear Greg and Victor banging and ramming into it but I just laugh menacingly.
"You two need to realize that is is the easiest act to pretend like you have no memory." I can basically hear Greg about to explode as I take off down the hallway and taking as many turns that aren't guarded as possible. While running, I call Anne and the others on the earpiece.
"Anne?" I say, breathing heavy." Her voice comes through without hesitation.
"We have your location and the map just came up, you'll need to take the next right and there should be a window at the end of the hall with a fire escape. Take that to the second story, we'll meet you there." She replies. I pace myself as I take her direction.
"Wait. Why only to the second story?" I pause. She sighs.
"The last bit got burned down in an old house fire. You'll need to jump from there but no worries, we're bringing the air mattress." I sigh.
"Like that's gonna help." I mumble as I start my climb out the window.
