Chapter 19
As I begin you rush down the fire escape, I hear faint screams coming from the second story window. I pause to look in and see two of Greg's goons just leaving the torture chambre of what appeared to be a little girl.
She sat in the middle of the floor clutching her ankle and upper arm. She had bruises covering her face and torso, as she was in a crop top and yoga shorts. I looked at her once more before continuing down the escape. I make it to the point where I have to jump but see that they haven't arrived yet so I head back to the window. Before risking being caught I stop beside it and listen to the sounds going on inside. However, all that can be heard are the girls sobs. I have to do something. I peek around the corner and see the door starting to open as the girl forcefully stops mid-sob.
"Crying are you?" Greg's voice rings out. I lean my back against the brick outside the window.
"No, sir." The girl's tiny voice chokes out in a whisper. I hear something break and look back in the window. Greg stands with the girl in his hands, holding her by her grime covered shirt. Victor at his side, not moving a muscle as he watches the whole scene.
"Don't lie to me!" Greg scowls in rage. "You think you could just come waltzing into my building and expect me to, what, help you, was it? Do you think I'm that gullible?! Who do you work for?!" Greg yells in her face. He drops her shirt and she hits the ground with a loud thud.
"I don't know what you're talking about." The girl replies. Greg turns around and runs a hand through his balding head.
"You came here for a reason kid, I wanna know why." He demands. She shakes her head.
"You'll have to kill me first." She scowls. Greg shrugs.
"If that's how you wanna end this conversation..." He pulls out his gun from it's resting place and hands it over to Victor who hesitantly takes it from him, aiming it at the girl's head. "Than you have accepted your destiny, Angelina." Victor pulls the trigger without a second thought or blink. I cover my mouth to hold back my sobs but instead start to sob silently as I see Greg's goons come in and take the body away leaving a trail of blood in it's wake.
While the body was on it's way out, Greg reached into Angelina's pocket and pulled out a USB. He waves off his men and, in a haze, follows after them, not taking his eyes off the small USB. Victor drops the gun and looks over his shaking hands as he turns and heads out the door as well.
I lay my head back on the brick wall and slide down, trying to get rid of the girls smirk when Greg pulled out his gun. Almost as if it was what she was waiting to happen, like she was hoping he would kill her.
I shake my head. I need to find out what's on that USB.

Finally, the van pulls up below the fire escape and takes out two mattresses. I sigh as I talk louder at them, not quite yelling.
"You brought two mattresses?!" Anne nods from the passenger window.
"Well, we'd rather our leader in one piece not in a one piece cast." I shake my head as I sit on the ledge of the escape sliding down onto the mattresses. It still stung to land considering that it was from a second story window but I wasn't gonna say anything cause they seem to be worrying enough already.
"Hero, what happened when they caught you? Did they hurt you?" Tyler pries, looking me up and down for injuries. I roll my eyes hiding my smile.
"Tyler, you're overreacting. I'm fine. Nothing happened to me." He looks at me with a skeptical look.
"Than why are you shaking?" He raising a questioning eyebrow. I cross my arms to try to prevent some of the shaking. I look down at the ground and start kicking at the small pebbles as everyone else loads the mattresses into the van. Anne comes up to me and places a comforting hand on my shoulder.
"I heard it all." Was all that she had to say for me to break and collapse into her arms.
"He's alive. And he's working for the wrong side. They nearly killed me." I say in between sobs. She pats my back as I start to straighten. I wipe away the tear marks on my face. Anne smiles sadly.
"I know how much he meant to you." She points. I nod.
"Now he's dead to me." I say walking by her. Her jaw drops as she turns to me.
"You're giving up on him?!" She exclaims.
"I gave up on a lot of things a long time ago, Anne. This just so happens to be the one thing that I won't regret giving up hope on." She shakes her head.
"We have to save him!" She yells. My eyes fill with sadness as I hop into the van looking her directly in the eyes.
"He's past saving." I slam the door shut and with that she makes her way into the van, sending hesitant looks back at me and the building. I choose to ignore the side-long glances and turn my trail of mind and gaze out the window.
The man we once knew, was now one with his demons.
