"Oh... um.. hey." Scott said, shaping his mouth into a weak smile despite the tight knot forming in his stomach.

"What is it Scott?" Malia asked, tilting her head slightly.

Scott pretended to look as if he didn't know what she meant. "What do you-?"

"Ok Scott, this whole pretending you're alright when you're not thing may have worked on other people but I'm not other people. I know something's up. You can tell me." And she was right, Scott thought to himself; she wasn't other people. She was sassy and unpredictable but also gentle and soft and-

"Scott?" Scott tumbled out of his pool of thoughts and blinked.

"Huh?" Scott mumbled, realising how stupid he sounded.

"You were staring again." Malia said, raising an eyebrow.

"Oh... sorry." Scott murmured, not realising he'd been staring at her. He watched as Malia left her position at the threshold of his bathroom and moved so she was sitting next to him on the bed. "So... what is it?" Malia asked with a gentleness he hadn't heard her use that often.

Scott sighed. "Allison." He caught Malia looking away for a moment and bent his eyebrows but didn't say anything. Instead, he went on. "We argued."

"About what?" Malia asked, turning back around to face him.

"I didn't pick up her calls." He sighed, realising it was a pretty pathetic thing to fall out over. Malia snorted.

"Damn. She is never gonna forgive you." Malia said sarcastically, her mouth forming a smirk.

Scott sighed. "Knowing Allison she probably won't." Malia shook her head.

"I'm sure she will; you both love each other, you both want each other." Malia shrugged and fiddled with the hem of her towel.

"But what if I don't." Scott mumbled, his eyes on the floor.

"What if you don't what?" Malia said, bending her eyebrows slightly.

"What if I don't want her." Scott murmured and shook his head. "I didn't mean that." He chewed his bottom lip. "I mean- what if I want someone else." His eyes were still on the floor as Malia asked,

"Like who?"

A short silence.

"Like you." He whispered, still not looking up.

"I-" Malia began but didn't get to finish. Because Scott had turned around and kissed her.
