Scott's POV:

Scott let his wolf senses take control as he started to sprint, following the smell of blood and the sound of ringing as he went. It wasn't long until the smell was so overwhelming he had winced. But the ringing had slowed. Coming to a halt, Scott looked up to see a motionless furry body lying in front of him and as he looked closer, he understood where the smell of blood had come from.

Malia's POV:

She knew there was a boy running through the woods as soon as he'd stepped foot into the endless twist of paths and trees; another thing Beacon Hills was famous for. For one thing, she was mildly surprised at the speed he was running at and the rate his heart was going at. She was even more surprised that when he reached where she was laying he actually acknowledged her practically lifeless presence.

In fact, the intensity of his stare as he took in her weary eyes, her dirtied paws, her sweat covered fur, the gash across her stomach, was slightly unsettling. But as much as she wanted to, as much as she needed to get up and escape the fate that was looming over her like a deadly shadow, she couldn't. The slash she had gotten from the wolf was too deep and she knew this boy wouldn't be any different from the rest of the humans; he would bend his eyebrows in pity at her and then start to walk away slowly, his pitiful eyes still on her until he disappeared from sight and moved on with the rest of his life. And Malia would not let false hope blind her from reality. Not again. She wouldn't hope that this boy would be different and actually care for her life. Not when no one else ever had.

Scott's POV:

The cut across its stomach was the first thing he had noticed. And from all his experience working at the local vet, he knew if he didn't make a choice right now this second, it wouldn't survive. So Scott, his mind racing, made a decision. Dropping to his knees, Scott scooped up animal the and started to run.
