Scott ran through the woods, ducking and twisting to avoid the branches that stuck out from the trees that were gradually thinning as he got closer to leaving the woods. He held the small animal close to his chest tighter as he took a sharp right out of the woods and into the alleyway that led to the vet. Almost there.

A buzz came from his pocket followed by his ringtone. But whoever was calling would have to wait for now. Almost crashing into the door to the vet, he came to a stop and started to fumble for his keys when another buzz came from his pocket. Ignoring it, Scott shoved the key into the lock and turned it, rushing over to the counter where he usually performed surgery on animals.

Placing the animal on the counter, he grabbed a damp cloth and bandages and attended to the wound across its stomach. Gently but quickly, he pressed the cloth on the wound which resulted in a yelp from the animal. Whatever it was. A dog? Wolf? No, he would've known if it was a wolf. Pushing his thoughts to one side, he pressed the cloth to the wound once again, wiping away the dirt that had gotten in it. When he finished cleaning it, he took a bandage and wrapped it around the animal's stomach, holding it down when it recoiled. When Scott was done he stepped back to examine the rest of the animal. A few scratches and scars but they were old and therefore didn't need bandages. Sighing with relief, Scott leaned forward to stroke the animal as something unexpected happened. The animal leapt to its feet with the speed of a lightning bolt and started to howl.

Confused, Scott just stood there watching as the animal started to jump up and down until it slipped and fell from the counter, its paws flailing in the air. Scott rushed forward to catch it before it hit the ground and choked when he caught it. For what he was holding wasn't a small wolf-like creature, but a girl.
