After the somewhat short drive home with Asher, I got a bad feeling in the bottom of my stomach. My parents are going to freak out when they get a phone call from the alpha. I have always felt like parents didn't want me because I am their first-born. My mom and dad really wanted a boy, but instead, they got me. My parents just never payed attention to me; they were worried more about their duties to the alpha than me.
While zoning out, I didn't realize that I pulled into my house. "What are you thinking about, love?" His accent is just so perfect, and when Asher calls me lover, I get some bad intentions in my consciousness.
"Just thinking about what my parents are going to say to me when we walk in. It's going to be bad, Ash. You have no idea," I say while he gets out of the car and opens the door for me.
"Your parents seriously can't be so loyal to their Alpha that they will hurt my wonderful mate. Who would ever want to hurt you?"
I could feel my face turn crimson. "Well, Lainey would. I am pretty sure my parents could be on list after this." We walk up to the door, and it's opened by my father. "Hey, da-"
"Don't you "hey dad" me young lady! What is this nonsense being told to me that you are Asher's mate? There is no way it could be you." he roared.
"Excuse me, sir. My name is Asher, and yes, I am your daughter's mate. I have every authority to kill you right now for saying that to my beautiful mate. If you will excuse us, your so-called daughter has to pack all of her belongings because she is coming with me to join my pack in London," Asher says hastily as he shoulders past my dad. We head up to my bedroom to see my mom sitting on my bed.
What have you done? You ruined everything! Lainey was supposed to be Asher's mate! Why couldn't you act more like her? She is a strong, yet dainty lady. You are from that. There is no way you'll ever be strong enough to be the Lockheart pack's Luna," she says in a calm matter. I started to tear up. Could I be Luna? Am I strong enough? Then I realized that's what they want. Everyone in the pack, even my own parents, doubted me, but guess what? I am strong enough to lead the Lockheart pack. If I wasn't, then why did the moon goddess make me Asher's mate? I rip off the diamond necklace my parents bought me off my jewelry hanger and throw it at my mom.
"You know what mom? I am going to be the strongest woman in the werewolf world. Do you really want to piss me off?" Asher grabs my hips from behind, and I feel shocks shoot right up through me. I know that this is to show that he's proud of me, but I think he's enjoying the shocks, too.
"Yeah, I do actually. You weren't even my real child. Your father and I can't have kids, so I adopted you from a werewolf orphanage in California. I am actually glad you're leaving," she says in a matter-of-fact tone as she walks out and slam the door. She then comes back with the adption papers and my birth certificate to prove it to me. "Leave after you pack your things up."
There is no way I am adopted, right? She was lying, so I would cry like a baby. I feel like my whole world was just flipped upside down in less than twenty-four hours. I guess I was wrong; the main reason they didn't love me is because I really wasn't there kid. I sit down on my bed and Asher follows. "It's all right, Cass. I'm here for you. I'll always be right here." I didn't even realize that I was crying. I lean into Ash's shoulder and cry for half a hour. "Are you feeling better now?"
