"I'm good, no, yes I'll put some effort. No, it won't be like last year. I promise, okay I'll see you in a bit, bye." I find myself talking into the phone. It's Kira pleading that I don't show up practically looking homeless like last year. Truth is I just didn't care what people thought and I was so fed up of everything back then.

My dad introduced his new girlfriend that day. I mean I'm happy that he's happy but he fails to realise that whenever he's not around, she treats me well equivalent to that of yesterday's trash. She's such a horrible mooch but dad is infatuated with her so nothing I can say or do makes him ever doubt the famous Rebecca Spade. I just let them be and tried my best not to care that he's replacing mom with Satan's cousin. That day she showed me her true colors and I went to school looking like a truck hit me. Thrice. Went back and ran me over a fourth time. I was emotionally hurt as she hit all my weaknesses at once like nobody has in a long time.

"Not this year." I say out loud as I grab my favorite pair of light blue skinny jeans and an off shoulder cobalt colored top. I slide them on and head to the bathroom to do my hair. I prefer it untied but today I braid a half braid along one side of my head and attach some bobby pins to keep it all in place. I apply two coats of my favorite mascara and add some rosy lipstick. To top it all off, I sprinkle some of my favorite perfume and indulge in the smell of heaven all around me. Before I knew it I'm ready! Well aside from my converse but I'll put those on later.

I glance at the clock and I've got approximately 15 minutes to leave so no rush there in fact it may even be a new record.

"Morning dad-" I stop talking because he's apparently busy kissing the life out of Rebecca. How lovely. Right on our kitchen counter.

"Oh hi sweetie I uhm, breakfast?" He scratches the back of his neck slightly embarrassed meanwhile Rebecca is shooting me death glares, burning holes through the side of my head because I interrupted their little make out sesh.

"No, dinner please," I reply, my voice laced with sarcasm. I grab the cereal from one of the cupboards. "Rebecca can you pass me the milk please?"

"Sure thing." She replies and I see an evil glint in her eye, surely whatever happens next is bound to be fun. She approaches me holding the milk carton and just as I suspected she "trips". Luckily I wasn't caught off guard and dodged it causing her to collapse on the ground before me. Rebecca bridge is falling down falling down- no? Not the time?

"Are you alright?" I pretend to care as she's fuming with rage. I can probably imagine all the murderous schemes that she's making up in her head by now. I offer her my hand and to my surprise she takes it and squeezes it so hard I think she just grew three heads. Stepping up she looks at me with a deathly glare and a mischievous smirk. She's taller than me in those 5 inchers and definitely looks more intimidating but I simply shoot an angelic smile, turn around, grab an apple and make my way towards the shoe closet.

"Are you alright darling?" I hear dad asking Rebecca while I'm tying my laces.

"Not really babe I broke a nail, that child is so rude!" She responds faking innocence. What does she mean I'm rude I honestly didn't do a thing. That woman is all sorts of dramatic. I mean if there was a drama queen contest there's no doubt she'd win first place.

"It's alright, look at me we can go to the mall and you can get any manicure you want. Sounds good?" Dad being the naive one replies hoping to console her and get rid of the "trauma" I caused the poor poor thing. I scoff at my own thoughts perhaps a bit too loudly because they both turn around and focus their attention on me.

"Right I'll be on my way, you two have a nice day." I say as I fling my back pack over my shoulder and make my way out the front door.

The walk to school isn't long at all, just 5 minutes. I admire my small neighborhood it's kind of cozy in comparison to the other neighborhoods. The houses here aren't that big and not every house has a pool. The biggest pool around belongs to the house next door, Diego's house to be precise. Although the last time I saw the pool, it was under renovation. I wonder how it looks now.
