'Who were those kids back there?' I asked Chiron as we kept running. 'What on earth were they talking about?'

'The rebel sons of magic.' Chiron answered. They've been causing lots of trouble recently, sabotaging demigod quests, capturing innocent demigods and forcing them to join their side, they haven't caused this much trouble since the Last Titan war.'

Now even Chiron was talking about wars that we all apparently had no idea of. What has the human society been up to these days?

'What are you going to tell our parents?' Lynne yelled at Chiron. I was actually starting to believe that he was a centaur. The way he galloped with such alarming speed, the way my friends kept staring at his legs, I found it hard to believe what my eyes saw, which was really depressing.

Chiron glanced back as he ran. 'We've already told them. We always warn a demigods parents when we have to take their children. It's much safer where we're headed.'

A random human smashed out of an entire brick wall. Maybe Chiron didn't like people breaking walls, or just reflex, but before the person even got a chance to do anything, Chiron shot him without a second glance. The human exploded into yellow powder, almost showering us in its remains.

'What was that? I asked Lynne as we ran.' She looked about as confused as I am.

'That was a giant.' Chiron answered.

'A giant? I don't see anything wrong with him!'

'I can fix that,' Chiron slowed to a halt. He put an arm on my shoulder. 'There is a strong aura of Mist around you, but I can fix that.' He snapped his fingers. 'Look again.'

I blinked twice and looked back at Chiron.

This time, I could see significant changes.

Instead of galloping on two legs, Chiron now looked different. The features of the horse head and Chirons legs were blurred and undescribable, but instead of actually being part of the horse, he now appeared to be on horseback.

The I glanced at Grover. He had a pair of horns sticking out of his hair now, but I saw no hooves whatsoever.

'It's gotten better' I said, 'But I still can't see... everything, I guess.'

'What do you see?'

'You're on a horse now, and Grover has horns on his head, but I don't see anything so different apart from that.'

'Interesting...' Chiron stroked his beard in thought. 'The Mist has never disobeyed me before.'

'The Mist... Marvin mentioned some mist as well...'

'It's a mysterious form of matter that veils the average mortal's mind, making them unable to see the true horrors of the world. The Mist.'

'What's next, The Fog?' Blake laughed.

'And then after. The Smog!' I joked nervously.

'The Fart!' Arthur replied.

All three of us cracked up in hysterical laughter. Lynne rolled her eyes, but I could tell she was trying hard not to smile.

(Sadie's just called me immature for laughing at the word Fart. Honestly, I dont know why we found it funny either. We've just been attacked by a bunch of wizard kids and are following a centaur and satyr. Give us a break.)

'Yeah, go on, laugh about your own future.' Grover grumbled. 'If we don't get away in time, we're all going to die, but by all means, let's all have a good laugh about the Mist!'

There was an uncomfortable silence. Lynne gave me a look, like, 'See? I told you so!'

Chiron gave a tired sigh. 'It is all right, Grover.' he said to the satyr. 'They are scared and confused. It is not their fault, especially when they are powerful enough to attract an entire monster army toward them.'
