Chapter 32
Fiora awoke and rolled over in bed, remembering the night before, it left a pit in her stomach just thinking about it. Rafael had a night terror and she knew he was struggling with the death of their child. She was struggling too, but in a different way. For her, the pregnancy was short lived, and even shorter for Rafael still. But she had to stay strong, although inside she still felt the pull of mental retreat.
Suddenly she realized Rafael was not in bed with her, it was early morning, the sun was new in the sky. Slowly she spread her palm over his side of the bed, it wasn’t warm as she expected. He must have left long ago.
All the times of waking up to him and his cautious stare, she wished he was not there to see the emptiness in her eyes. But now she wished he was there, to pull him close, feel his heat against her.
Sighing she rose from the bed and wrapped her light pink robe about her, tying it loosely and making her way out of the room. Down the spiral staircase, and across the hall she hushed her foot steps as she made her way closer to Rafael’s study. Her bare feet padding silently across the cold stone of the castles floor.
His door was swung open and she peered inside. He sat at his desk, head in his hands eyes closed. She couldn’t tell if he was sleeping, either way, he was still, unmoving except for the slight rise and fall of his chest. Dark hair fell askew all about his face and the shadows of the new morning’s light looked fierce upon his sullen face.
Ever so silently Fiora creeped into the room, around the over stuffed chairs, passed the large wooden desk and came to stand behind his form. Slowly and gently she placed her slender hands upon his large shoulders. He didn’t flinch or react in the slightest, so she wrapped her arms rightly about him and whispered in his ear-
“My bed was cold this morning”
He sighed as she spoke the words into his ear.
“I’m sorry-”
His voice sounded rough and she halted his words as her lips brushed his ear lobe. He removed the hand cradling his head and sat back in his chair roughly. Fiora took advantage of this new position and kissed the under side of his jaw, causing him to intake breath sharply.
Quickly and roughly he reached around grasped her around the waist and pulled her up to sit upon his desk. His large hands on her thighs, eyes cast downward as he stayed sitting in his chair.
Fiora breathed quickly and shortly as his hands pushed the fabric of her night gown to pool around her, completely revealing her legs.
His hands caressed her inner thigh and she gasped at the contact, leaning forward for a kiss.
Rafael turned his head, looking down darkly.
“I can’t.” He breathed.
