Chapter five

******

I had been standing in front of the gym for the past 10 minutes. I had repeatedly told myself to get a grip but couldn’t seem to. I just didn’t believe what that redhead had told me. Luke would’ve mentioned being in a relationship or something.  Deciding on the worst, I walked into the gym.

Ignoring the cat calls I was receiving, and not having a single ounce of care at the moment for embarrassment, I called out, “Is there a Luke Carvelli in here?” and a few pointed towards the back when the bench presses were.

I walked towards them and spotted Luke. I stood there waiting for him to notice me but I saw earphones in his ears so I walked over to his side, leaned over and yanked them out.

“What the- oh hey Amara.” he said sitting up, putting away his phone and earphones.

“Don't Amara me, instead explain to me why you didn't tell me you had a girlfriend.” I whispered yelled at him, in return he looked up at me in confusion.

“What are you talking about, I don't have a girlfriend.” he said standing up. I crossed my arms over my chest.

“Oh yeah then explain to me why that Victoria Beaumont girl came up to me after class telling me to stay away from you?!?” his eyes widened then closed, pinching the bridge of his nose he sighed then opened up his eyes.

“Victoria is my ex and she still thinks that we are going to get back together.” I was shocked.

“Well, I really don't want to step in the middle of anything especially something like this.” I said, trying to swallow the lump in my throat. Curse you.

“Look Ama, I'm sorry, I'll talk to her don't worry.” he said stepping towards me but I stepped back and held my hand up.

“You don't have to do anything,” not knowing what else to say I sighed, “just leave me alone from now on Luke, she's a beautiful girl, with perfect hair, perfect eyes, a perfect body and a perfect smile, she's basically perfect and you two fit well together, be happy.” I said trying to hold back the tears that were pricking the back of my eyes. He just stood there staring at me, I couldn't even hold his gaze for a second.

“Amara look, we broke up a while ago okay, she has nothing to do with me, but she's always there trying to ‘win me back’,” he says and even though I tried to hold it back I gave a small laugh at how he used the air quotes. He brought his hands down and smiled at me.

“I love that sound, Ama, you may see her as perfect but she truly isn't, you on the other hand,” he looked me up and down biting his lip, “girl don't get me started on you.” my eyes widened at what he said and he chuckled at the small blush that was taking over my face.

“Stop it you casanova, now go and shower you filthy animal.” I said laughing. He stood up and tried to hug me but I jumped back. He laughed as I pushed him to the showers.

Sitting on the bench outside of the showers, I was daydreaming when there was a buzz from my pocket, realizing that it was Luke's phone since he didn't want to get it wet, he left it with me. Taking it out, the LED light was flashing indicating that he had gotten a message. Not wanting to be like a creep or something and check his phone, I decided to wait until he got out.

“Finally, you're not reeking and actually smell good.” I say teasingly when he got out. He just smiled and ruffled my hair. I pushed him away and remembered about his phone and the text.

“Oh by the way you have a text, I didn't check it or anything so don't freak out.” I said holding out the phone to him.

“I wouldn't have mind but can you actually see what it is while I sort something out with the manager, it's probably just my mom reminding me to eat something, I forget when I'm caught up with stuff, you know how mothers get.” he said before he walked over to some guys at the front desk. Oh you bet I know how mothers can get.

Turning the phone on, I open the message and almost dropped it when I saw that is was from Victoria.

So Luke, are we still on for tonight, I bought a really nice dress that just know you'll love.

The message read and my heart stopped. What the- but he told me he had nothing to do with her.

My hand tightened around the phone even more when Luke came back to where I was. He sensed my tense mood and frowned.

“What's wrong?” he asked and I scoffed.

“As if you care, you lying piece of crap.”  I whispered in anger as I shoved the phone to his chest. He looked dumbfounded.

“What the hell, what happened Amara?” he asked again but I just grabbed the phone back and showed him the message. He read it and grabbed the phone out of my hand and shut it off, putting it in his pocket.

“Hm,” I questioned, “so much for the ‘ I have nothing to do with her anymore’ speech.” I said using the oh so loved air quotes. He sighed and looked off to the side.

“Ama-” he started off, but I stopped him.

“You know what Luke, save it for the people who will actually care to listen, because right now, I'm beyond hurt.” I looked up and gave him a small sad smile.

Trying to swallow the lump in my throat, I cleared my throat and wiped away the stray tear that fell from my eye.

“Bye Luke.” I said and left without a single look back. When I stepped outside and breathed in a gulp of fresh air, I closed my eyes. You did the right thing in walking away. I nodded to myself and headed home.
