*Kagome's POV*

Later that afternoon, there was a small knock at the door. Letting out an annoyed, yet small groan of displeasure, I rolled over to my left side to face the door.

"Come in!" I spoke loudly, my voice bouncing off the hospital walls I had already grown accustomed to. I rubbed my closed eyes as I heaved my body upwards and propped against the pillows, the thin sheets falling to my waist.

Much to my surprise, Koga came through the door. His dark brown eyebrows were lowered, looking rather apologetic. His left hand remained behind his body, even after he closed the door shut.

"What's in your hand, Koga?" I questioned him suspiciously while crossing my arms across my chest. My eyes refused to look at his sorrowful ones. I stubbornly kept them leveled at his hiding hand.

"It's a present for you." He said in such a monotone voice that I could basically feel his regret radiating off of him.

"I know that." I replied with annoyance laced throughout my words, trying to build a tough exterior. My bottom lip was being chewed on so I didn't let a snarky remark make its way out of my mouth.

I saw him jut forward a Dollar General shopping bag in my direction. As I grabbed the white bag, my fingers just barely brushed against his hand. We both jerked away quickly, the bag nearly falling from my grasp. My hands reached inside and pulled out my favorite candy bar.

"White chocolate Kit Kats." I said in awe as my fingertips traced the outside of the white and red wrapper.

"How could you have guessed?" My dark eyes finally raised to his stormy ones.

Koga came forward and plopped on the edge of the bed. A bewailed smile pulled his perfectly shaded pink lips skywards. He folded his hands together on his lap and looked me dead in the eye with all seriousness.

"Kagome..." He spoke so softly, his words barely able to be recognized by my ears.

"Yes?" I replied anxiously. The time ticked and tocked around us.

"I knew who you were." The words stumbled out of his mouth in a rush. I sucked in a breath of air.

"W-what do you mean?" I stuttered, my breath hitched in my throat. "Like before the accident?"

"Like way before the accident." He said. "Like we used to be best friends."

"Please tell me more..." My hand tightly grasped the plastic bag as I mumbled in shock.

"We were younger, then. Much younger." His eyes seemed to glaze over as memories flooded his mind.

"I remember when I first met you." He chuckled deeply, remembering my unknown memories and past.

"We were about four years old. It was the first day of Kindergarten. My mom dropped me off at school and left without a goodbye. I was sitting in the corner crying my eyes out because I missed my mom." He paused, staring at the endlessly white ceiling.

"Then I heard this girl screeching bloody murder. I glanced up to see this small girl hugging her parents goodbye. She clung to them as if they were her breathing source. Eventually the parents had to go to work so they left her behind. It made me feel really terrible whenever I saw someone crying, especially a girl."

"So, I went up to her and told her that I missed my parents a lot, too. She collapsed into my arms and sobbed into my chest. I remember wrapping my arms around her, like this."

Koga moved from the bottom of the bed to the head. My heart pounded profoundly in my chest as I saw him plop besides me. He took my arm and pulled me into his chest. I could hear the calm thud of his heartbeat as his arms encircled around my small frame. His touch and warmth was inviting; I had no other choice than to lean into him. I closed my tearful eyes and completely placed my head onto his chest.
