-Athena-

"Yes, my name is Athena Mikaelson, and I am one of the oldest vampires ever to live. Fear not, I don't want anything to do with Klaus getting back here. See around 500 years ago I did something that made him angry. I had the choice of being stowed in a box for another hundred years, or run for my bloody life."

"So we can safely assume you're on our side?" Stefan asks confused.

"I'm not going to put family first if that's what you're asking. I just ask that we only kill Klaus. Elijah is a good man," I reply.

"Alright, I'm going to go off to school," Elena states and gets up.

"I may join you. I think it would be best to have someone with you at all times. My brother doesn't give up easily," I say and follow her out.

After we get outside and far away from the house Elena begins to walk into the woods. "What are we doing?" I ask.

"Looking for answers," Elena says simply and suddenly a blonde girl speeds up to us.

"Elena, I still don't think you should do this. I'm no good at distracting people. Stefan will see right through me!" The girl panics.

"I'm sorry, who is this?" I ask annoyed.

"Caroline Forbes, Elena's best friend. Who might you be?" She snaps.

Smirking I throw her up against a tree, "My name is Athena Mikaelson, and I'm short tempered when it comes to newborn vampires."

"Athena is one of the originals. Oldest vampires to ever walk the earth, and her older brother Klaus is the one after me," Elena informs her .

"Why are we going into some old cellar?" I ask.

"Because Katherine is the only person who truest knows about Klaus. Other than you, but I don't want Klaus to come for you just because you gave me information," Elena explains as we reach the door to the tomb.

"Katherine?" Elena calls. A pasty and dead looking Katherine crawls into the light and laughs.

"Oh great, I'm already starting to hallucinate. I swear I can see Athena Mikaelson standing next to Elena Gilbert," Katherine laughs again. Her voice is rough, probably from lack of blood.

"It's no hallucination Katerina. I'm here with Elena to get answers on Klaus," I say.

"I brought you a few things," Elena takes out a book, "Some family history."

"You think with some family book I was going to open up?" Katherine asks in awe.

"No, that's why I brought this," Elena pulls out a bottle filled with crimson blood. Katherine lunges at it, but some kind of barrier stops her.

"Tell me about Klaus, about your family. It says in this book that the Petrova bloodline ended with you, but that's a lie," Elena says and pours some blood into a little cup and pushes it with a stick over the line.

"I first met Klaus around 1492, when I left Bulgaria. Or was thrown out," She pauses and waits for more blood. Elena gives it to her.

"Thrown out?" She questions.

"My family disowned me. My family, your true ancestors, did not tolerate my indiscretions at that time. I had a baby at wedlock."

"It was kept secret," I say.

"Mm-hm, I was thrown to England. I had to learn to adjust. That's where I met him. I caught the eye of a nobleman named Klaus. I was okay with him at first, but then I found out what he was and what he wanted. Then I ran like hell. I was running and almost got caught, but Trevor helped me and told me to run away."

"So why does Klaus want me?" Elena asks.

"He wants to sacrifice you to break the curse," I say.

"How does the Petrova bloodline fall into this?" Elena asks.

"The curse was bound using Petrova blood. I has to be broken with Petrova blood," Katherine says drinking yet another shot of blood and crumpling the cup.

"I was tired of running, and Trevor had lead me to a house in the woods. There I found Rosemarie. She tried locking me up, but I had a better plan. I stabbed myself in the stomach and waited. She finally noticed fed me her blood, and while she was talking with Trevor I killed myself. Easy as that. I left them to face Klaus and ran like hell," Kathrine says.

"Wait, where does Athena fall into all of this? You said for nearly 500 years you'd ran from your family," Elena asks.

"Well I was the one that originally help Katerina escape. I believed it wrong to kill someone as poor and innocent as her. That night after Klaus had found out you escaped he and Elijah tried running after her. I snapped both of their necks and fled as far as I could as fast as I could," Tears begin to pool in my eyes, "I returned to ask Klaus for my forgiveness, only to find my lover laying on the floor with a snapped neck."

-Flashback-

"Niklaus?" I call as I continue to walk down the corridor, "Niklaus I've come to ask for forgiveness!"

Sighing I find my way to Benjamins chambers. We'd been sneaking about for months and months, until just recently I told my brothers and Rebekah. He's one of the few I can say was my love and hopefully my last one. I knock on the door but it cracks open.

"Benjamin?" I question and step in. The sight in front of me is ghastly. His body is sprawled in an uncomfortable angle and his head is snapped in two.

I fall to my knees as the tears begin to fall. "No, no, Benjamin!" I cry harder and take his hand.

"I was going to do it eventually. You just helped speed up the process. It truly does hurt me to see you like this sister, but you know as well as I that no one will be good enough for you," Klaus says putting a hand to my shoulder.

"This was your doing then?" I sniffle and stand. He nods his head and smiles.

"I would now say that we are even. You snapped my neck so I snapped his."

"You call slaughtering the love of my life even?" I croak.

"Enough with the dramatics. Just be glad nothing was done to you," Klaus says and walks away.

I run after him and push him against the wall, "Nothing was done to me? You just killed the one person on this earth that saw past the monster our parents made us!" I shout and push on his arm harder.

"Careful now sister. Your place as favorite sibling is falling," Klaus threats and I laugh out.

"You are no brother of mine Niklaus. I hope to never see you again," I say and begin to walk, but Elijah appears from around the corner, "Elijah?"

"I am sorry sister, but you've given us no choice," Elijah says and begins to approach me. I back away only to be picked up by Niklaus kicking and screaming. I'm thrown into a cellar and watch as they walk away.
