Chapter Seven
My mind was jumping to one idea to the next, “My family is special…” I couldn’t help but laugh I let out a slight giggle. His face was still in a serious position so I wiped the smirk off my face before he got mad. “I know it sounds absurd but it’s true Olivia, no other way to say it.” I was trying not to freak out or laugh, what did he mean by special? With bad luck or good genes; what was this specialness?
“We have abilities that you and others don’t have. Our smell is incredible; we’re fast runners, never get cold and were always warm. We are basically humans with wonderful gifts if you will.” He was so proper when explaining things to me. My stomach flipped when he said ‘basically humans’. His eyes kept me drawn in, I noticed a slight change in them – the edges were turning hazel while his eye color was still a bluish green that they have always been. His pupils dilated into slivers almost like a cat. My mind froze, but my body took a step back – I was terrified.
The person I love so much wasn’t who I thought he was he was some sort of creator. I thought to myself silently, Sam was still in front of me but he was waiting for it to sink it. I ran, I turned on my heels and ran into the woods. Not even half a mile into the woods there is a spot where I use to come to by myself to smoke when I was younger. My mother didn’t know about it so I called it mine.
Tree after tree I found myself lost, the wooded area here was very thin but right now I felt so surrounded and trapped I didn’t know what to do. I was breathing heavily, tears’ streaming down my cheeks, the sun was setting and it got cold outside. Sam wasn’t going to chase after me, I looked back when I was running and he was standing there with his head down in shame. I disappointed him but what else what I suppose to do?
After a few minutes I began to walk back until I hear something. The same noise I heard at the woods by that deserted gas station, my heart dropped and my knees started shaking. I was about to die, or so I thought. I see something to the left hiding behind some bushes and trees.
A brown fur like animal – I couldn’t see clearly that the sun was at the peak of disappearing. I heard a whimper from the animal but I still kept my distance as I backed into a tree when I heard another whimper. “Sam?” That’s when a wolf came out from behind the trees and bushes.
It stood there, staring at my eyes. So deep, as I saw a tear drop down from the wolf’s eyes. He whimpers again, and the wolf was beautiful. The fur was kind of curly but it was a solid brown just like Sam’s hair. His eyes were dead on like Sam’s the minute I turned to run – bluish green with a hazel ring around them his pupils were dilated into slits. He wasn’t huge like they show them in movies; he was a normal sized wolf. Saddened by my reaction he still is at a distance from me, but close enough I can make out every detail of him.
I began to take a small step towards the wolf, well Sam. He didn’t move an inch; he stood in place as I examined him. Walking around him in a circle, I saw it all. I stuck my hand out, and he still didn’t move. I lay my hand onto his brown curly fur; it’s so soft. I run down his coat of fur as I make a second circle, I take my hand away from him as I reach to his neck and the wolf shivers. I kneel down in front of the wolf; Sam.
I look into his eyes so deep I could sense something. He was trying to tell me something as a growl escapes his throat. I gently raise my hand up to his face; my fingers slightly touch his cheek. I was in love with Sam no matter what - he was my soul mate since day one; that’s what Sam liked to say it. I look back at his form, the muscle built of his wolf form. He was so beautiful; you know those pictures of wolfs that are very detailed? That’s what Sam looked like right now. “What does this mean for us Sam?” my voice was shaky as tears form in my eyes. He slowly gets closer to me and he gently puts his face to mine.
The soft fur caressed my face. I could feel the heat instantly sending a shudder through my whole body. He was telling me that everything was okay, that he loves me no matter what, and that this is how life is. He brings his face back to look at me, without a single word I stood up. “Want me to go?” I glance at him waiting for an answer. The wolf went back to the bushes and trees where he was before. I mean, Sam. I heard some cracking and popping to see Sam was now standing behind a tree putting cloths on.
