Chapter Nine

Dinner goes by quick with lots of talking. Bella was the one talking the most, I kept quiet most the time, and Sam was involved with a ton of the talking. We announced our engagement, and that’s when Bella spilled the beans. “Mommy is having a baby, grandma!” I cannot believe she said that, oh my. My mother was going to kill me. I am sure of it – I turn slowly to look at my mom, who had tears in her eyes. My mom had blonde hair, blue eyes, and a big heart. She accepted a lot of things I’ve done over the span of my life even if she didn’t totally agree with it.

“I am so happy Olivia! I wanted another grandchild.” I look around at everyone a bit shocked, she’s taking this actually really good. Better than I thought she would, but then again she’s always liked Sam since she met him at college. “We’re very excited mom, but I’m sorry we didn’t tell you sooner. We just found out the other day, and then we decided to tell you in person.” She gets a huge smile on her face and comes over to me. She hugs me tightly; I missed her hugs so much. She let go of me and went back to her chair “Well, we have a lot to do. Wedding planning and baby planning! I am so excited!” My mother was a ‘planner’ she loves to plan parties, weddings, baby stuff, anything you can thing of she will probably plan it.

Dinner is over; we’re all in front of the television watching a movie. My mom wanted to go to sleep so it was Bella, Sam and I. I am sitting on the love sofa alone while Sam and Bella take up the other couch. Bella had fallen asleep already but Sam kept his eyes on the TV. The wolf came back into my mind; the whole experience was weird and scary. He noticed me staring at him but I really wasn’t staring at him I was looking at him but my mind stopped to think of the whole day that had just happened.

I look back at the TV, as I hear the couch making noise. I see Sam at the corner of my eye getting up, but moving Bella so gently. He picks her up which means we were about to talk. “I’ll put her in bed, and we’ll talk more okay baby?” I nodded my head.

Sam was so wonderful but I needed my questions answered. I didn’t really know what to do right now. The engagement, the pregnancy, and now a wolf – I wanted to just run away forever this was such a mess. Before I hear Sam talking he was right next to me, now I know why he was also so quiet and scared me. “What do you want to ask me? I can tell you are asking yourself a ton of questions.” I look at him, he has a smirk planted on his face but I couldn’t resist I had to smile at him.

“First off, why didn’t you tell me sooner? Like maybe in college perhaps.” He lowered his face, “I knew you were my soul mate, when you kept looking at me before we actually met. I had this feeling inside that I was drawn to you but I had to wait for the timing.” I am now looking down at my hands – fiddling with my nails. “Olivia, it’s okay. Keep asking me, you need to know.” I look back up at him.

I waited a few minutes before asking another question, “Why did you stop talking to me after I left college? I loved you Sam, and leaving you wasn’t one of my happiest moments in life. Then you come back into my life so easily then all this…why didn’t you keep in touch more often?” He gets closer to me, holding me to comfort the tears that were about to fall from my face. “I told myself after I had found out about my situation, I would never find my soul mate – and if I did I’d do what I could to make her happy.  Even if it meant leaving her alone, this life isn’t easy. There are consequences involved with certain things Olivia; I didn’t want you to be afraid of me or the life style you’d have to live.”

I paused letting every word sink in deep; he was protecting me by trying to keep me away. “Then why did you come back into my life?” He cupped my face into his warm hands “Because I love you, Olivia. I couldn’t stand going day by day knowing you’re not with me – safe.” I stared into his eyes, the eyes I that always watched me when I didn’t notice, the eyes that made my heart melt, and they eyes I never want to see a tear in.

He comes forward slowly, his lips contoured to mine. My heart was racing with fear, sadness, but most of all love; love for this man who saved me from a life of hurt. I couldn’t be without him, he made my life whole. I didn’t choose the wolf – I chose the man with a wolf life style. He never let my face go, still kissing I had to pull back; I had a few more questions. His look was firm ready to listen “What about everything else, I need to know the dos/don’ts, what had happened at the woods today and everything Sam.” Calmly and truthfully he told me.

“As my soul mate well we’re pretty much married in a wolf’s way since we had sex. It’s a bond that cannot be broken or altered in anyway. We will grow old together don’t worry!” I giggle a bit; one thing I always wanted was to grow old with someone. With his beautiful smile it turns back into his serious face “As for the woods, we do have an enemy; no it’s not vampires, or anything like that. The animal was a wolf, our own kind but they are the bad wolves. They kill humans, which is why we try to keep it all out of this area.” Confused, why would they kill humans? He told me that they have soul mates with only humans, so why would they kill humans?
