Chapter Ten

He knew what I was thinking, with the look on my face so he continued “They are older wolves, about my dad’s age. They take out their pain of not finding a soul mate. Such as, if I was one of these wolves and we met; if we didn’t connect as soul mates I would kill you within a week all because of my feelings towards the situation. I kind of don’t blame them, I’d be upset if I didn’t find a mate at that age, but I wouldn’t go around killing people.” My heart stopped; there are bad wolves out there. What did that mean for us; why did he risk himself with his dad to find that wolf?

I mess with my finger nails again, it’s such an awful habit but I had to do something, “So, these wolves – why are you involved with it?” He got this look, of hurt and anger. Sam’s eyes began to change “I am involved because…” he was beginning to shake a bit “Sam, calm down honey. It’s okay, we’re safe remember?” He reminds himself we are safe, nothing bad was going to happen. “These wolves come and go. They travel the world looking for their soul mate, our family ‘The Pierces’ have territory of the whole state of West Virginia. We’re the head of the state and pretty much ‘presidential’ in a way. Those who break certain rules get punished.” There were no packs, just families now I understand a bit better.

He began to explain to me that it’s all based on a very long time ago that his grandfathers protected this state. They helped many wolves while the transformation period of other wolf live was happening. They tried to help the wolves that lived in West Virginia, and they did – a lot of people. Ultimate seniority of this state was in the hands of the Pierces. Also, they had not packs but ‘families’ all around the state - they look up to them. These ‘families’ of wolves were ready to fight those who caused trouble in their state.

These bad wolves were now on their territory that threatened the whole state. They had to be stopped immediately or all the wolves would have to up and move to conceal their secret. Sam explained the rules of the wolves life was to:

1.   Never tell anyone ‘werewolves’ are real; except your soul mate.

2.   No hurting innocent humans.

3.   Conceal your transforming from humans - other than family members or soul mates.

4.   Never draw attention to yourself with the strengths you have.

5.   No fighting amongst other wolves unless the secret of our life style is in jeopardy.

“There really are not many rules; as long as we obey them we’re okay. These other wolves, the bad ones can make our life hell.” I was now looking at the TV, trying to understand. “We can have rule changes as long as you talk to your head of state and the rest of the head of states in the country you’re in - agreeing it’s acceptable to punish whoever is a threat to our kind.” I nodded my head, “One other thing I should tell you, but it might be too much to handle.” Still gazing at the TV waiting for him to tell me, “These wolves like to also kill other wolves’ soul mates. It’s like a game to them, it’s sickening I kno…..” I cut him off before he could finish. I was pissed now; nobody was going to ruin my life.

My daughter needed me, my mother needed me, and Sam needed me. “Sam, nobody is going to hurt me. I won’t allow them to.” He lets me go on without interrupting. “I am a strong person, and I will keep my family safe. Why would they want me anyways, I’m not anything special.” he then get’s sadness on his face “They want you because you’re the soul mate of the head of state’s son. Nothing is going to happen though; they don’t know anything about you or anything else. We don’t even live here, and they don’t know where we live.”  I was about to get sick again, running to the bathroom I had to throw up. This was way too much, why would they torture others like that, it’s not necessary at all.

Sam helps me while I am throwing up, holding my hair back and wiping the tears that fall from my eyes. I lean back against the wall as Sam get’s a towel to clean me up. “Why do they want me?” He doesn’t answer, I am getting impatient. “SAM!” I heard a growl from this throat, “What will they do if they get me?” I needed to know so I could prepare myself. “They will keep you hostage, until I find you which can be days, weeks or months depends on where they take you. They will not be in their wolf form when they meet you. It could be a tow truck driver, a mailman, anything to keep them under cover or simply they could be themselves at a grocery store. Your scent was lingering on me into the woods where they were.”

My body shudders to the feeling of being watched and followed. I couldn’t hold my emotions in “What will happen after – if they get me?” He looks up at me with pain on his face “They won’t Olivia.” Solid, and firm without any hesitation he said to me. “I need to know Sam…” He looks away from me staring at something to keep from being even madder than he was “They will…” I hold onto his hand, comfort was what he needed.

I waited, and waited for an answer until he finally spoke “Torture will be the first thing to happen. They will hit you; beat you till you’re bleeding all over. These wolves love attention; which is why they wait until I find you.” Pausing with the thought of me being battered almost to death but no death will come just yet. “After they smell my scent, they will direct me to you pretty much. Rubbing their bodies to yours and running near where they are. After I am closer, they will attack me and make sure I am tied up with chains to watch the finale.”

My eyes met his; with so many emotions he grabs my body to hug me. “I will not let them near you Olivia, and if they do get you – they will never hurt you!”  I still cannot wrap my brain around it “What are we going to do about the wedding, the baby and everything else?” He searches my eyes, “We will live our lives like we have been honey. I will marry you, I will adopt Bella, and you will have our child. Olivia, they will never catch you. You’re mine.” Comfort ran through my body, he was right. Nothing was going to harm me. Sam wouldn’t ever let it happen, ever.
