The Past pt. 3

Since that night Niklaus was forced to distance himself from me. But despite his father's warnings, we meet in secret at our spot. Seeing him was euphoric, but not being able to even look at him in public was torture.

Then he stopped coming. I would wait for hours to see him but he never came. This went on for weeks and I was starting to loose hope. Today would be the last time I waited for him, if he didn't show up then I would know that we were truly over.

Then I heard it, a voice so amazing that I could listen to it for hours. "Vanessa?" He called out my name in his beautiful accent.

"Niklaus!" I ran over to him and hugged him like it was the last time I would ever see him again. He went stiff to my touch but eventually wrapped his arms around me.

"Where have you been? I thought you didn't want to see me anymore." I said sadly looking down.

He tilted my chin up so that I was looking at him. "It wasn't my choice, love. There is something I have to tell you, but please promise you won't become afraid of me." He said said nervously.

"Of course Niklaus you can tell me anything." I said while caressing his cheek.

"My parents have made my siblings and I... creatures with abilities no human has. Our speed, strength, senses, and emotions have been enhanced. The sun would burn us, that is why I couldn't meet you, but my mother made us rings to protect us from its harm. We must be invited into a home to be able to enter, vervain flowers are now toxic to us and prevents compulsion- the ability to twist people's minds to do whatever we desire, and our injuries heal quickly.

The only thing that can kill us is a stake made of white oak and we cannot age or procreate. Blood created us and it is blood we must drink to survive. I'm a monster."

It took me a few seconds to let what Niklaus said sink in and once I did I realized that they've become more powerful than werewolves. Mikael and Esther must've wanted to protect their children from being harmed like Henrik. "You said you were turned into a monster but all I see is the same man I fell in love with." I said holding his face in my hands. No matter what Niklaus became I knew that I would always stick by his side.

He slowly backed me up into a tree and placed his hands on my waist. "Do you want to see the face of a true monster?" He whispered into my ear. His husky voice sent shivers down my spine.

I nodded slowly, not knowing what to expect.His face started to morph, his teeth elongated into fangs and the sclera of his eyes turned a dark red. Veins appeared from under his eyes that were also a dark color. I brushed my fingers along his face, mesmerized by it.

"How are you not afraid of me?" Niklaus whispered as his face went back to normal.

"You promised that you would never harm me. I know that you would never forgive yourself if you hurt me." I truthfully replied. Upon hearing this, I saw that his previously tense body now appeared more relaxed as he realized that I've accepted what he's become.

"Come, my mother requests your presence."

As I sat in Niklaus' home, a slight wave of panic washed over me as I saw Kol feeding off a woman. As if he knew my angst, Niklaus wrapped his hand around mine calming my nerves. Esther sat across from us and started to explain why I was here. "I assume Klaus told you about his new condition that he shares with his siblings?" She asked. I nodded yes.
