Nathan: Me and My Crazy Questions!
I sat there staring at her. She finally gave me a look, and I turned away.
I saw Jacob sitting by himself, looking at his feet.
I walked over to him, "Grab a pencil and paper; I wanna talk to you." I whispered.
He dug through his backpack, and pulled out a mechanical pencil and a small notebook. He followed me to the back of the bus, where no one was at, at the moment. When I stopped walking he gave me a curious look.
"Don't worry." I said, "I didn't bring you back here so I could kill you. I just wanna ask you some questions."
He raised his eyebrows.
"About Whitney." I explained, and looked to the floor.
He nodded once, urging me to continue.
"How long have you known her?"
"Almost three years." Jacob wrote.
"Are you...together?" I choked on the last word.
He shook his head, and looked at the ground.
"Do you wish you were?" I asked quietly.
He looked at me for a long moment, and then nodded twice.
"Hmmm..." I pondered that.
If their best friends, she already loves him in some way... It wouldn't take long for that to become something more. I felt a sudden twinge of jealousy.
Jacob saw the worried look on my face, and began to write furiously. "She doesn't see me that way. I'm like an older brother to her. I wish it weren't that way, but it is. I'm almost positive she would never think of me like that." He wrote.
I guess I didn't look too convinced; He started writing again, "I think she likes you. I can't be sure, but she acts differently when you're around, almost like she's shy, and well... she's not. I could be wrong. It's just what I've seen.
We stood there for a second, neither of us speaking. Well... I guess he couldn't even if he wanted to.
"Is that all?" Jacob wrote.
"Yeah, that's it." I said, still lost in my train of thought.
"You like her, don't you?" He wrote again.
I nodded once. "Yeah, I don't even know what happened. I've never felt this way about someone before. I can't even stand to be around her, I like her so much."
Jacob nodded, as though he knew what I meant.
"You're the only one who knows. Do me a favor and keep it to yourself?" I asked... no, I pleaded with him. I didn't want anyone to know about this, not even Seth, or Brody.
"Don't worry about it." He wrote, and then walked away.
I followed him after a few minutes.
As I went to join the others, I felt my cell phone vibrate in my pocket. I checked the caller ID. "Hey guys!" I called out, "Mom's calling me back!"
