Chapter Twenty-Three

Hello everyone reading this; Cecile Braydon here.  You're all probably thinking, 'Oh.  Another one of these?  I hope this chapter has at least one decent joke or reference.  If that's not possible, could the author please give us a smidge of character development?'  Now you're shocked, huh?  Asking yourself, 'How did this idiot know what I was thinking?'  Hey!  'Idiot's kinda mean...  but I'll tell you how I knew.

It's because I'm a psychic.

Just joking.  I'm not a psychic.  It's just called 'common sense and deduction' along with a vague reference that you all probably won't get.  Now what I can do is tell you what I'm thinking about, which is- "I want to go to the beach."

Barry and Foster looked at Cecile when she spoke up.  They were all outside for their free hour, sitting in the grass since it was such a pretty day.

Cecile flopped back and stared at the beautiful blue sky.  She heard the sweet green grass crunch beneath her back.

Foster started to fan himself with a plastic blue folder.  He didn't mind the white mark forming in the middle of the folder where the folder bent.  "Beach?  We're no where near a beach.  We live smack in the middle of the United States."  Foster scoffed.

Cecile crossed her arms.  Her mouth furrowed into a little pout as she tore her eyes away from the sky to look at Foster.  "I want to play in the water."  She pushed.  "That sounds like fun!"  Barry commented.  He gripped his knees in excitement.  "You can't get in the water with that suit."  Foster burst his fragile bubble.  Barry tilted his head in remembrance.  "That's true..."  He sighed.

Foster grimaced at Barry's puppy-like attitude.  He knew Barry just wanted to hang out with Cecile, but he was never able to unless Foster was somehow involved.

Foster stopped fanning himself.  He scratched the back of his head.  Maybe he'll help his friend out only once, even though it was at the expense of his own happiness.  "Uh, how about we all go to the park instead?  I'll drive.  Barry and I can pick you up after school, Cecile."  Foster offered.

"But I didn't bring my car to school today."  Barry reminded him breezily.  He didn't realize what Foster was proposing.  "I brought mine."  Foster pressed.

Barry shook his head.  He made a disgusted face under the mask, though no one could see.  "You're car's so gross!  You don't clean it!"  Barry exclaimed.  Foster shot him a look.  He was trying to help the guy out!

Cecile slowly sat up to watch the boys.  "It's dirty?  I never realized."  Cecile tried to think back to the few times she was in Foster's car.  She couldn't remember the interior at all.

"It's dirty.  So what?"  Foster looked away with mixed emotions.  His want to help his friend was slowly dissipating by the second.

"I don't get it.  You're such a clean guy, but that car-"  "I just don't want to clean it!  Okay?  That's...  Look, do you guys want to go to the park or is it a no?"  Foster interjected.  His hard stare hid another emotion deep within his heart.  He had absolutely no motivation to clean the car, because it wasn't rightly his in the first place.  It belonged to the person he hated.

"I wanna go to the park."  Cecile answered.  Barry leaned back with a sigh. "Me too, I guess."

Barry observed Foster with a sideways glance.  He watched for any change in emotion through his netted bear suit eyes.  Foster betrayed nothing.  Barry looked away.

😧

Foster watched as cars pulled out from the school parking lot.
