Sophie looked out the window of her Mom's van as they pass into Kansas, their new home. Her dad had stayed back in Illinois to finish packing and to lead the movers the correct way so nothing would get lost like the last time they moved. Sophie's family moved slot due to her grandfather's health and having to find new doctors. When he died a month prior Sophie and her parents decided to move one last time to start a new. Sophie chose not to make friends back in Illinois so not to hurt anyone. She hopes she can finally make at least one friend here in Kansas. They arrive to the new house about an hour later and unlock the house for the first time. Sophie walked through the empty house. Searching for anything cool. All she found was her room and bed that had been brought a week prior. It was empty and lonely in the house. Sophie decided to go to bed early to have a fresh start at her new school.
Sophie awoke to the smell of breakfast sandwiches drifting in from down the hall. She jumped up and for dressed grabbing her bag and running to the kitchen.
"Morning Soph, how did you sleep?" Her mom asked in a sweet chirp.
"I slept ok for someone in a strange dark house with no electricity." Sophie says with a sigh.
"The power will be on by the time you get home this evening sweetie. I will stop at the store on my way home and buy some food and I will cook us up a nice dinner. Now hurry up and eat or you will be late for the bus."
Sophie boarded the bus shortly after and sat in the back by herself the whole ride. She could hear the kids talking about her, whispering. She was the new girl it wasn't surprising. She found her first few classes pretty easily until 4th period came around. Sophie had a creative multi-art class. And had found herself in the Science wing. Sophie had wandered the halls until half way through the period when she found her class.
"I am so sorry I am late I got all turned around."
"It is fine Sophie, please take a seat. There is one next to Cynder Burnheart." Sophie shuffles into her seat and sets her head on the desk.
"Hey it's ok kid, it's your first day and you got lost. Hey, how about we hangout after school and I can catch you up on some stuff around here." Cynder seemed very sincere in this short meeting. Sophie and Cynder became fast friends. Cynder helped Sophie get through the rest of her freshman year and practically lived with her over the summer. The two didn't talk as much through sophomore year but we're still close. Even when HE came into Sophie's life.
