Dear Niall,

July 6

I came by your house again today.

Nothing special, right? Right?

Except it was. Niall, YOU ANSWERED THE DOOR.

I came over, just like every day, and knocked on the door. I was hoping for-but not expecting an answer. The door swung open and I nearly burst with happiness.

Until I saw you, anyways. Niall, I'll be straight with you. You looked like hell. Your hair stuck out in all directions and I've never seen darker circles under someone's eyes. Your arms hung limply at your sides and your face held a blank expression.

You didn't say anything. Neither did I. You just stood there in the doorway, staring off into space. Eventually, you turned to go, but you didn't shut the door behind you, so I came inside with you, shutting the door behind me.

I followed you to the kitchen where you sat down at the kitchen table. You finally seemed to acknowledge my presence when I sneezed. You looked at me and blinked. I noticed that your eyes weren't quite as blue as they used to be.

We sat like that for a while, not moving, not talking. It felt like a lifetime. In the end, I stood up and sighed in defeat before reluctantly walking back to my house.

Love,

Elle

Dear Elle,

July 6

Today you came to my house, just like always. Today I answered the door.

I didn't say anything, and I was grateful when you responded with your own silence. I didn't want to talk, I didn't want you to leave, exactly, I just didn't want to talk.

I can't explain it, really. Maybe talking would have been too much. Maybe you would have told me about your boyfriend. I don't know. I just hope you come back tomorrow.

Love,

Niall
