AN: Heads up, this chapter gets a little sad towards the end! Side note: sorry it's so long lol I got carried away writing it...

"Hello?" I asked, attempting to keep my voice from sounding like I was crying.

"Oh, hi! Is this Brooklyn Booker?"

"Yes, may I ask who's calling?"

"This is Elisabeth Leustig, we chatted over email a little bit?"

"OH! HI! Yes, I was expecting your call." I replied, trying to keep my cool.

She laughed softly into the phone.

"Nice to finally speak with you! Now, there are just a few things I wanted to discuss with you. First, i'm aware you're a tap dancer and a singer, do you have any other talents?" She asked.

"Well, I can play just about any song on piano and most other instruments by listening to a song, or with sheet music. I'm classically trained in ballet, tap, jazz, and i've been in almost all the school productions in my middle and high schools, among some community theater things." I replied, hoping I didn't sound too cocky.

"Oh wow, very impressive! Next, how familiar are you with the musical Newsies?"

"It is my current favorite musical, I practice all the songs on my piano and warm up with some stuff, and tap to King of New York often." I sound like such a dork! I thought to myself.

"Awesome! Final question, have you ever considered going professional with your singing and dancing, more specifically, on Broadway?" I could hear the smile in her voice.

"Well, I went to NYU for theater for college. I graduated about 2 months ago, early. But yes, I have always dreamed of going professional!" I replied eager to hear the offer I was hoping she was going to make.

"Perfect! If you wanna take a train or fly up to New York City, we would be more than delighted to screen you to see if you're what we are looking for for our new Katherine! I take it you read the article I sent you?" I almost screamed.

"Yeah actually, that is unfortunate but good for Kara!" I responded, unsure of which way she was looking at the situation.

"Oh yeah, Kara is such a sweetheart. I'm proud of her, we actually got quite close through our Katherine search."

"Aw that's awesome!"

"Yeah, we'll miss her." She stayed quiet for a second, then pressed on. "But we're looking forward to meeting you, Brooklyn! Have a great rest of your day!" She hung up, but I stood there for a second, trying to process everything.

I'm going to New York City.

My favorite place on Earth.

To audition for Newsies, one of my all time favorite musicals.

Could this really be happening?

She was really sweet on the phone, does that mean I have a chance?

Could I really do this?

Yeah.

I can.

No matter what mom, dad, and Katie think.

I'm gonna seize the day.

I went back downstairs to tell my family the good news, but heard my parents talking in hushed tones. I hung back for a second, quietly eavesdropping.
