CHAPTER THIRTEEN: the accusing eyes
-
FinnShe stared at me nervously as I tied my shoes. Her arms wrapped around herself in a shield like manor almost.
"You can stay here..." she mumbled biting her lip now.
Her eyes met mine and she seemed to deflate at my small shake of the head. "You know I have to go Millie," I said now standing up in front her, her hands reaching and tightening around mine.
"I don't want you to get hurt again," she muttered. "Come on just stay here! We can play scrabble and I'll let you win." She whined pouting her lip out and my lips twitched slightly.
She was adorable.
I stared at her for a moment staring and studying her features, just a moment, before pressing a kiss to her lips softly. She doesn't move back and I know she's desperately trying to hold onto not giving in, but I didn't stop moving. Just gentle nips and soft puffs and soon enough I felt her melt.
"I love you Millie but you know I have to do this," I whispered and fingers tightened around mine, clasping together down at our sides.
And god I what we felt made everything that much harder.
After finally leaving and biking over I plastered on a sad frown as I knocked on the door. In reality I was scared out of my wits. Some how I had always suspected it was him but not that it was confirmed it made his presence around me unnerving.
Trying not to deck the man in the face made my entire being shake. I just wanted to strangled him till his lips turned blue-until he couldn't breathe and that thought scared me.
I didn't know how much darkness I could hold and express- that frightened me.
The door opened, closing my thoughts then, and forwarding them to the two men standing in front of me now.
My hand trembled a bit, "Mr. Modine I heard what happened," my tone sad and sweet filled with worry. He nodded running a handover his face and it was obvious he hadn't gotten much sleep with the bags underneath his eyes.
Good.
"Yes, yes. I just can't believe someone would break in to my house, you know? I think that shows what kind of world we live in now."
I nodded sadly. "I hope they find the person who did it sir." He shook his head thankfully and I looked over at his son after a moment.
"I am sorry too," I said but his eyes just hardened suspiciously almost.
Shit.
"So Finn," he said forcing a smile. "What'd you do yesterday? Surly a boy your age is around and about," Romeo asked and if I didn't know any better I'd say he was interrogating me.
"I was at home," I replied with a raised eyebrow, jaw clenching slightly.
"Are you sure about that?"
My heart stuttered but I managed to keep my face passive. "Oh I'm positive Romeo."
We stared at each other and I knew that he didn't like me. He could tell that something was off and I didn't like it.
