Discovering Shadows (Completed)

Awake

I peek out at the loud whispers. I have never been in their room before. The bed is really large. I can see Asher and Fate are talking right outside the door. Asher's deep voice conflicting with Fate's singsong.

Asher "We have to take her there. She can't be alone anymore."

Fate "But we always have our time first. It's how we bond and keep them truly with us."

Asher "She's not like the others. She doesn't trust adults. Look at what it's doing to her. Look at what it is costing her."

Fate "I know. Ok, I know this is best. But...Do you think they will like her? That they'll accept another one? After so long? What if they don't take her in like they did before. This is not like the other times, Ash. She is different."

Asher "We will go today and talk to them. If they seem upset we will wait. But honestly Fay, I think it won't be a problem. It never has before. Even if she is different."

Fate "Let me get dressed and we will leave."

It did not take them long at all. They left really fast. But the only thing I could do is lay there frozen. They said they were taking me to other people. I knew it wouldn't last. I knew making noises came with punishments. Even noises you can't stop.

It's been five hours!!! That's why right now I'm hiding in their closet. It smells like Fate in here. Even though Asher talked her into taking me away she really wanted to keep me. Maybe that will make a difference later.

Sophie came right after they left and just sat in the room and watched me. I couldn't actually sleep anymore but I didn't want to hear her chatter. So, I pretended to be sleeping. I waited for Sophie to leave but she didn't until the phone rang. I haven't been hiding long just a few minutes. I hear her talking on the phone but I don't know what she says. I freeze when I hear her hang up and start back down the hall.

I know when she enters the room because she takes a shocked breath before starting her search. She looks under the bed, in the bathroom and the closet but she doesn't see me. I am really good at hiding. I found a spot in the back. It's behind a big long jacket. So, she can't see me unless she bends all the way down.

When she leaves, I hear her yelling! She is fully panicked. Desperately so. That's when I really know. It's over. I am leaving. She wouldn't freak out this bad if it wasn't so.

Kevin! KEVIN! She screams at the top of her lungs.

My heart stops. He was so nice. I start crying. Not him too.
