Max POV
I can count the number of times I have been surprised on one hand.
1. The extent my family would go through to be rid of me.
2. Fate finding me. Wanting me.
3. Aiden and Kinsley's ability.
4. Finding a home. A family.
5. Sylar.
They really don't need an explanation. The things that surprise me are the things that I couldn't control even with my ability. But until today I would have said that I am settled. That nothing surprises me anymore. Not now that I have developed my ability.
I am telekinetic. I can more objects with my mind. I can manipulate the natural elements easily with a thought. I can feel sensations, emotions and movements better than anyone I know. Everything is more intense for me. Smell, Taste, Touch, Sound, Sight, Movement...it all affects me.
It began when I was 3 everything just popped like a sound in your ear. Everything became instantly overwhelming. Too intense. I didn't even realize that I had moved things until after I heard another pop and everything went silent. When I looked, it was like I had picked up everything that could make a sound or move and paused it. Everything levitated in the air in a three-block radius. But I could still hear the heartbeat of every person, feel the anxiety as their breathing picked up and see the sweat accumulate on the brow or lip.
That was the moment I ceased to exist. My parents were the richest in our neighborhood. They spent countless dollars on any program that proclaimed to fix me. They had a solution for my genetic anomaly. They had a new method for correcting my mental defect. I heard it all. It took a year before I was able to escape and stay hidden.
I was seven when my elemental manipulation appeared. This was by far the most difficult power to control. Before it had just been a matter of blocking out certain senses. Now I had to learn to block out my emotions. For a long time I became a robot. Fate was worried about me. It wasn't until I almost burnt down an entire forest that she and Asher understood what I was doing. They finally understood why I had become withdrawn. It took so long for me to know, judge and control myself to prevent accidents from happening that the others began calling me the Iceman. It's not a name I am proud of but it is a name that means I have been successful in keep just how unpredictable my abilities are from those I love. I have prevented them from being a victim of my powers. I was finally to the point I know longer worried so much. I was loosening up around them.
Until today.
Until today there was no little girl with pale skin, unruly brown curls and bright blue eyes.
Until today there has never been an innocent hurt the powers I wield.
Today I have failed. Today I am crushed by despair. Today I watch and wait and hope that the little pale angel with the unruly curls opens her eyes again. Today I am paused.
