Hiding

I kept my place in the closet. I didn't want anyone to find me. I wanted Fate and Asher even if they were mad at me. I tried to cry quietly but sometimes noises come out any ways. I think that's how Kevin found me. I thought he might yell at me for hiding from Sophie but he doesn't. He moves the coat to see me then he tells Sophie he found me. When she tries to grab, me I huddle deeper into the closest. Kevin tells her to go take a break that he'll watch me for a while. She protests and tells him that Asher just called and wants me brought to the Estate. He just nods and says he'll get me there. She leaves. A few moments later I think I hear a door slam and a car take off but I'm not sure. I'm too focused on Kevin.

He has moved the coat to the other side of the closet and is trying to climb in with me. But he's so big he doesn't fit. He looks like the biscuit roll when its popped. The buttons on his jacket are pulling so he unbuttons it. His legs are straight out of the closet door but he seems satisfied that he's almost in. When he goes to sit back a hanger is sticking out and pokes his head. His expression is so out of place that I can't help the giggle that escapes.

He freezes and looks at me in shock. I can't stop giggling, even covering my mouth doesn't hide the sound but I'm not scared anymore. He won't hurt me. Anyone who goes through that much trouble is too nice to hurt me. He smiles real big at me before reaching into his coat pocket, opening his hand and handing me a watermelon blow pop. My favorite.

We sit there for a while in silence. He takes up a lot of the closet space so I just lay my head on his shoulder and eat my sucker. I feel peace again like when Mark was around. I like Kevin. I start hearing music in my head. It's sounds beautiful. My eyes drifted closed again and I hear myself humming but I can't make it stop. The song is just so nice. I've never heard it before.

I feel myself being moved and I open my eyes to see but I'm not scared. Kevin is just moving us out of the closet. He grabs a bag from the bed and we leave the room. When we get to the kitchen and the moving box there's another man there. Kevin says something to him I don't understand and he shakes his head before pushing the button to open the box. When we step in I tense up. I don't like the moving box, the ding is to loud, it's too scary. But Kevin just hugs me closer and says it's ok he's got me and I feel at peace again. That's when I notice I'm still humming that song and the other man in the box is looking at me strangely so I close my eyes. I know when we get outside because the sun warms my face. I hear a door open and I think Kevin is about to let me go again so I wrap my arms around his neck. He says something else to the man before climbing in the back of the big car with me.

The only sound in the back is my humming. When I feel something wet hit my face I open my eyes to see a tear fall down Kevin's cheek. I touch it with my fingers and I see a little girl with blonde hair playing a piano. It's dark in the room and the song she's playing is the same one I've been humming except it isn't peaceful to this girl. She is crying while she plays, her shoulders are shaking, but she's seems determined to play to the end. There are kids sitting on the floor beside her watching her and I see Asher and Fate standing in the door behind the piano. They all seem sad that the girl is crying. But when she is done they all move to hug the girl.

Now I see they are laughing. They've moved outside and the kids are playing while Fate is drinking her tea. The kids are all running and laughing. One boy is chasing the other and then suddenly a ball comes out of nowhere and hits him making him fall. Then the ball flies into the other boy's hands and he laughs. The little girl is playing too but she's followed by three other girls and three boys as they run around the trees to hide. The smallest boy peeks out from behind the tree and whistles. A dog comes running but he makes a side trip and grabs the ball from the big boy's hands before taking it to the smallest boy. They are all laughing now. The dog lays down on the ball and I'm waiting for him to attack like in the stories. The little boy runs over and falls on him laughing but nothing happens.

The memories are over now and Kevin is just looking at me. I can see that he knows what I did in my eyes. But he isn't mad at me.

I look out the window, I don't want him to know. When they know. They leave. There are lots of fields with wild flowers. Some fields have tractors in the middle and look like farmers are working them. There are no houses just lots of open spaces. Then we start going up hills and around curves. The driver has to go slower now. So, I can see in between the trees that make up the woods. It looks lonely out there.
