The "Best" Friends: Book 1

Chapter 2 - Bella's Visit

Before lunch, on a sunny Saturday morning, Gidget called everyone to the living room for a very important family meeting. Everyone was tired & couldn't be bothered getting up even though they were already dressed & had eaten breakfast. H, Carly & Pearl walked into the living room sleepily while Bob was already there, wide awake.
"Okay everyone, I'm glad you're here," said Gidget. She was always in charge of family meetings, "We are going to be getting a visit from Bella, so I want you all to seem.. normal. Act natural, okay?"

All three siblings looked at Bob. He looked back in return & didn't blink.
"What are you four doing?" Gidget asked.
The siblings looked back, but Bob replied, "We're a-having a staring contest!"
Pearl & Gidget both face palmed. Bob giggled.

They heard a knock at the door & Bob ran to it. Gidget chased after him. A surprised Bella stood outside waiting. She had a key for the house already, so she didn't need to wait, she was just being polite.
"Uh.. what are you doing?" She asked. Bob had his tongue sticking out, & Gidget had just grabbed his arm to keep him back as he opened the door.
"I was trying to stop him from being overly excited as always," replied Gidget.
"& I wanted to a-greet you like a good friend would!" Bob chirped in addition.

Bella just looked at them in a confused manner & then went into the living room with everyone else.
"Auntie Bella!!" Pearl cried with excitement. She ran over & hugged her. Bella smiled.

If you saw H standing with his parents & his siblings, you would think he was just one of their friends who looked a bit like Gidget, but when you added in Bella, you could really see how the family worked. They both had the same brown hair, darker skin & brown eyes. Their styles were very different though, of course. H usually just wore very casual green & brown outfits consisting mainly of hoodies, T-shirts & trousers or shorts, but Bella usually wore one of her formal looking pink dresses with black gloves & matching shoes. She also had pink & purple streaks in her hair which matched her outfits very well & made her look formal without being too serious looking.

Once everyone had settled down, they were all sitting on the couch, bored. They had no idea what to do, & the TV remote had run out of batteries.
"How about we-" Pearl started. H didn't let her finish. She sighed.
"We could play-" said Carly, but this time Pearl interrupted.
"Let's just play a board game or something?" Gidget suggested. No one else would have any good ideas, so she had to think of something. Everyone else would probably say, 'let's talk about bananas,' or something silly like that, especially Bob.

They decided to play the most classic game of all time: Snakes & Ladders.
"I wanna go first!" Pearl demanded. Whether she had said that or not, she would have gone first anyway. She was the youngest after all, & that was this family's rules when it came to board games.

Her counter was red, H's was dark green, Bella's was black, Bob's was yellow & Gidget's was blue. Again, there was no pink, leaving Carly with a white one. There were two more counters, one neon green & one purple.

They played the first game for about ten minutes, & they decided to play again afterwards. They kept the same counters, & this time, their game lasted about half an hour. Then they got bored.
"Ugh. I give up. I'm ordering pizza!" Yelled H.
"Hey! You can't do that!" Pearl cried, "You're not old enough."
"Hey, I'm seventeen, I can do whatever the flip I want," H replied back very matter-of-factly. Gidget was about to tell him that he couldn't since he'd be using her money, but she realized there was no point, plus everyone was fairly hungry anyway, so her son did end up ordering pizza.
