Chapter 27: Family Part 2

Timothy's POV:

Marnie must've noticed the rage I'm trying to keep inside and starts laughing. "T-Timothy! You can't always say no to guys that want to be with Poke!" I let my emotions take control, "YES I CAN!" I can already tell Angelica's eyes roll then focus back to me. Angelica stands in front of me, "Honey, why don't we see if Shane makes Poke happy before you decide to push him away from Poke." I sigh, I don't want to do this, but I will. "Fine..."

Marnie speaks up again, "Most of the time Shane can be found in the saloon with Poke in the evening." The Stardrop Saloon, huh. We make a plan so that we can surprise Poke and make sure Shane is a 'good fit' for her. I can't help but worry for Poke. I want the best for her, I want her to be with someone she's happy to be with.

Shane's POV:

After work, I head to the saloon again. I order some sparkling water instead of beer and Gus looks at me with confusion. "You're drinking water?" I speak up, "I'm trying to stop drinking..." Gus smiles a little bit, "It's not going to help my sales, but it's a good thing that you don't go overboard." Afterwards Gus gets me some sparkling water and I pay him. Then I go back to my table, I look around the saloon and see Marnie. It looks like she's trying to hide something. I stare there for a minute before Poke comes in.

Poke comes into the bar and orders a water, pays Gus, and sits across from me at the table. "Hey Shane!" She waves and smiles that wide smile at me. I wave back, "Hey Poke." Poke notices that I'm drinking water instead of beer and smiles. "I see. Are you trying either to cut back or stop drinking?" I felt a smile come up to my face. "I'm trying to stop now." She smiles wide again, that light feeling coming back to me. "I'm glad! Do you want pizza or pepper poppers?" I stand up, "I'm going to pay for you to get a dinner here tonight. So what would you like?" She smiles and tells me, "Thank you Shane. I really appreciate this, but I would like some pancakes good sir." She smirks at me with a playful look in her eyes. I roll my eyes and smirk myself. I order Poke some pancakes, pay for them, and go back to sit with her.

Poke and I were making some small talk when I see Marnie walk up to us. "Hey Poke! Hey Shane! I have a surprise for you two later. I can wait until you both get your food and eat it. Once you two are done come back over to where I'm at." After that Marnie just walks away. Poke and I get our food a minute later. She makes me eat some for three reasons. One, I needed to eat. Two, she couldn't eat all of it by herself. Three, I was the one who paid for it and she wanted me to benefit from it at least a little bit.

Once we finish the pancakes, Poke and I stand up and go to the area Marnie is at. I see a cloth over two adult body figures. What in the hell is she planning? Marnie sees us come by and brings us over to her table. "I have a surprise for you two! Shane, Poke, close your eyes!" I make a comment, "Marnie we're in our twenties, hell I'm almost thirty." She just shushes me, "SHOOSH! Just close your eyes Shane! Poke did it." I look back to where Poke is. Her eyes were closed, but she was smiling that child-like smile. I sigh and give in to Marnie's request. Once I heard a shuffle of cloth and feet I hear some of the adults gasp, then cheer? The hell? Marnie speaks up again, "Okay you two! You can open your eyes now!" I open my eyes and see two other pairs. One of them I remember from earlier this morning, but they were different from before.

They were filled with happiness before, now they're piercing into me.

I wanted to back away, but Poke gasped really loudly before she yelled out something I didn't expect. "Mom! Dad! You're here!" Wait, that Timothy guy and his wife... Were Poke's parents... I look back at them and sure enough the man is the man I saw this morning. Something happened while I was at work I'm guessing. "Erm... Hello." I could feel my fear rising as I can feel Poke's father glaring at me. I remember back in the letters when Poke and Eliza were kids that their father was protective over them. After all that's happened, I should kind of expected this if I ever see him. But it seems even more furious.

Poke must have noticed because she says, "Dad, I'm fine. Shane is a good person." It lightens a little bit, but I still feel the glares. Then I look at Poke's mother. She had the same black hair as Poke, but had extremely dark green eyes. She smiles at me and walks up to me, "Don't worry about Timothy. He's just like that whenever Poke or Eliza are around boys. But I want to let you know, two things." The woman has a small smile and a worn face. "My name is Angelica Dillan is the first thing. The second thing is, I hope you win both Poke and her father over." Angelica smirks and walks away as I feel some warmth come to my cheek. How does she know?! Wait... Marnie!

Marnie walks up to all of us. "Ok we should all go home and continue our conversations there. Off to the ranch!" All of us leave the Stardrop Saloon and head back to the ranch. I can feel Timothy glaring at me with a burning rage the whole way there. Poke tries to help me, but I wanted her to just relax. We reach the ranch and I open the door for everyone. We all come into the house and go into the living room. Marnie speaks up first, "Poke, I don't want to make you feel excluded, but I want your parents and Shane to talk with me. Go stay in Shane's room." I look towards Poke, she seems fine. "Ok Marnie." She goes off towards my room then all eyes leave her and I feel them all on me.

Marnie smiles and walks to Timothy. "Timmy~." Timothy's eyes light up in fear and pain when Marnie pulls on his ears. "What did we say about controlling your rage?" Timothy sighs then says, "Don't yell at him in an angry way or glare at him like you want to kill him..." Well then. I scoot away from Timothy after hearing that. Angelica looks at me with an apologetic smile, "Sorry about that Shane. But we want to know something..." Marnie stops pulling on Timothy's ears and then all three of them look at me with serious looks in their eyes.

"Do you love Poke? Do you truly love Poke and promise us to be true to her if you say yes?"

I felt like all of my blood just went straight to my face. So all three of them knew... I want to deny it, but I want to be truthful... DAMN IT WHY ARE FEELINGS SO HARD?! I make my decision on what to say and breathe in, "I love Poke. I love everything about her. I never want to make her cry and I never want to cause her harm." I look up at everyone and see their reactions. Marnie knew for a while probably, with that stupid smirk. Angelica's eyes are closed, but she's smiling. Then Timothy seems shocked, but he eventually smirks. Then all three of them say the same thing at the same time.

"Don't let us or her down Shane. Confess to her tonight."
