------------------------------------------The crying of a tiny child filled the ears of the three people in the room. The mother could only look in fear while the father glared at the masked presence holding their child.
The Red Hood. He held their child. He ignored the cries of the child and continued to look down at the two criminal parents.
The Red Hood was not a hero. Neither was he a villain. The heroes couldn't agree with his decision to kill their enemies, like he does, and the villains didn't like him because they are his targets.
"Where did you steal this kid from Joker? Looks like I'll have to teach you a listen." the Red Hood spoke.
Joker smirked and stopped glaring. He chuckled and looked at Harley with an amused look on his face.
"Look Harley, he's worst then us. Taking an innocent child hostage. Can't say we have ever do that, right Harl's?" Joker asked with a chuckle.
Harley smiled back and nodded her head. "Can't say we have miste' J." she spoke with her usual cheerful voice.
On the inside, she was a nervous wreck. The only thought on her mind was saving her baby. The baby she always wanted and always wished to have. Though the baby wasn't by blood hers, she still saw the child as her own and no one would, or could, tell her other wise.
"Don't get hurt kid, just return what is ours and I might just let you live." Joker said with a laugh.
He was a little worried about the future of his 'legacy'. He decided to leave it to the child but he can't do that if the baby is dead. It was hard enough to get a kid in the first place.
"You? Spare me? You make me laugh. Guess you really are a clown." Red hood said with a sarcastic laugh.
"I have an idea, I'll give you the kid if you let me arrest you without a fight." Red Hood suggested but still held sarcasm in his voice.
"As if we would trust you! You'd just shoot us from behin' when we aren't lookin'!" Harley yelled back at him while grabbed onto Joker's arm.
"As annoying as she is, she has a point. How do we know you're telling the truth? You're nothing like the other heroes!" Joker laughed.
"I might not be like the other heroes but I can keep my word." Red Hood said. He glanced down at the child in his arm.
Red Hood wasn't really a big fan of kids but something about this child he found to be cute but he also found the child to be partially ugly. He thought all children were ugly and looked tiny monsters.
Joker and Harley stood silent. Joker didn't trust a thing anyone ever said to him. Especially if it was some kind of deal he wasn't making. He hated following others commands or rules. Harley on the other hand, was ready to jump at the chance to save her baby.
"Tick tock, I don't have all day. You have five seconds left." Red Hood said already losing his patients.
"5..."
Joker didn't move and didn't say anything. All he did was stare at the child in Red Hood's arm. Harley was clenching onto Joker's arm tightly and now looked very nervous.
"4..."
Her heart was racing faster now and looked over and up at Joker while, slightly, pulling on his arm. Waiting for him to say something.
"3..."
Her heart was beating faster and faster and she felt the panic was showing clearly now. Joker, however, remained still and unfazed by this count down.
"2..."
Harley was worried what the Red Hood would do to her baby if Joker and she didn't listen to surrender without a fight, but she knew that wasn't something Joker would do. He rarely even let Batman capture him. The only times Joker would surrender is to follow a plan he created. Harley could see Joker wasn't going to surrender, not even the for the baby she loved so much.
"We-!" before Harley could even finish her sentence Joker had spoken up.
"Fine, we'll listen to you this one time." Joker said with a hiss and glared at the Red Hood.
No one could see it but the Red Hood was smirking under his mask. He walked over to Joker and Harley with one hand placed cuffs on their wrists while he balanced the baby in his other arm. The crying of the child had stopped long ago but, for some reason, the crying started up again.
"This kid never shuts up." Red Hood groaned clearly growing more and more frustrated.
Harley could feel her heart breaking from the crying. She wanted to hug the child and cuddle them till they stopped but couldn't due to the cuffs. Joker felt something tug at his heart when he heard the baby starting to cry louder and louder. He didn't like the feeling.
"Let me hold them, at least till we get to we're going." Harley said reaching out to grab the baby.
Red Hood was going to say no but knew he wasn't going to make this baby stop crying.
"Get in the cop car and I will give you the annoying kid."
Red Hood said walking behind Joker and Harley. Once in the cop car, Red Hood gave the still crying child to Harley. Harley shushed the baby while carefully and slowly jumping the baby in her arms. The baby stopped crying after a few minutes of this.
Harley hummed a little tune as the car took off towards, likely, Arkham. Harley didn't care. She had her baby and could hold them one last time before being sent away.
"Please, don't forget me. Mommy will get you as soon as she breaks free." Harley whispered to the baby. Joker was looking out the window and a small smile spread across his lips.
His baby was safe.
