Yeah, you know what? This could have been a better day. This should have been a better day. But it wasn't, and I'm not going to force myself to be happy.
And yeah, things do feel like they're not going to get better. But I've been here a million times before, mama, and I've made sure I've gotten up and carried on to a better life.
So this time I'm going to do the same. I'm going to give people a chance because disliking them because they're different than you is the basic reason behind homophobia, racism and xenophobia, and I refuse to be that.
I'm going to buy someone a chocolate tomorrow, and I'm going to take a book to read on the train, and I'm going to learn my languages and discover new music and be kind.
Because my past doesn't affect my future, mama. Neither do you, or the person in the cafeteria, or anyone, because I've been the only person picking myself up all these years, and I'm going to do it again, all by myself, because that's the way it is, and that's the way it should be.
My life isn't at the mercy of anyone else just yet, mama. I don't think they get to save me. I'm going to excel in this. Just you wait.
And I'll do it to make myself proud.
