A/N: Yes, this is the finale! I'm sorry to say that I will not be making a sequal to this, but Sam and Keira do make appearance in 'Hunters for Life', which is the Dean story. As before, I have also posted the first chapter of the Dean story, so if you want to check that out, feel free! As always, I hope you enjoy.
<Keira's POV>
The empty bottle of pheonix ashes sits on the table beside a little wooden holder. Three freshly made bullets are already waiting patiently in it. Dean is finishing up the fourth of these as Sam, Bobby, and I come down the stairs into the basement."How you doing?" Sam asks, wrapping an arm around my waist.
"Five shells-that's how I'm doing," Dean answers gruffly, still focused on what he's doing.
"Well that's five more than we had last week," Sam points out.
"It's better than nothing," I add.
"Maybe," Dean says, turning to look at us.
"Meaning?" Bobby asks.
"Meaning I almost had myself a little mishap a few minutes ago and well..."
He reaches over and picks up some of the ash, rubbing it over his forearm. At first we're all concerned. Then we realize that nothing's happening to him.
"How come something that's supposed to burn the bejeezus of Eve doesn't even give me a sunburn?" he asks skeptically.
Uneasiness settles in my stomach. What if this isn't the remedy we thought it was?
"Well lore says it works," Bobby says.
"And that's always reliable," Dean shoots back dryly.
Sam and I exchange looks.
"You know what, maybe it's like iron or silver, you know? Hurts them, not us?" Sam tries.
Dean gets up and walks away from the work table, looking more serious than usual.
"Maybe," he allows, wiping his hands on an old red towel, "fat lot of good it does us 'til we find the bitch."
"We'll keep lookin'," Bobby answers, "but maybe it's time we made a call."
He means Kris and Cas. But after the whole 'frontierland' fiasco and the engagement celebration, Cas and Kris told us that they had a major battle to prepare for and that they'd be hard to reach. They said it was important. We've held off on calling them for anything since then. Dean looks at all three of us as we look back expectantly.
"Why do I always have to do it?" he asks. He's whining again, "it's not as if Cas lives in my ass."
As he's saying this, Cas appears right behind him. I try to restrain a smile as Dean whirls around in surprise.
"Cas, get out of my ass!"
Kris is standing beside the stairs and takes a couple steps forward.
"I was never in your..."
"It's a figure of speech," Kris supplies, smiling gently.
It doesn't reach her eyes. Cas is still serious even thought he flicks a grateful look in Kristy's direction.
"Have you made any progress on finding Eve?" he asks.
"We were hoping to ask you that," Bobby answers.
Kris and Cas exchange glances. I can see the communication going on between them in the one look. She shakes her head, biting her lip.
"Eve's location is hidden from both of us," Cas tells us.
