Chapter 3

I woke up the next morning to my dad yelling on the phone. "Wait, what happened? Are they alright?" he yelled. I thought to myself what if this is about the Brooks boys and that guy last night? If my dad finds out what happened I am dead! I ran down stairs trying to think of the best apology I could persuade him with. "I'm sorry dad I was only trying to help." I gave him the puppy dog eyes. He looked at me with total confusion. "what honey? I don't have times for your games I need to get down to the station!" he said in a rush. So he doesn't know about last night? "why what happened?" I asked. "someone shot at the Brooks house last night, breaking all the windows then throwing burning wood through the windows." he replied in a serious tone. My jaw dropped. "we might be taking some boys into house Hope, I'm deeply in this case and I'm making those boys my responsibility!" he continued. "oh okay, I guess I'll get the guest rooms ready then?" I offered. He gave me a kiss on the head and left. Fuck how was I suppose to explain to the boys that I'm not an actual police?

I got dressed and and fixed up the boys new rooms. Since my two older brothers moved out three years ago and my dad has a good paying job we never even thought to downgrade the size of our house and now we had two extra bedrooms.

I looked at my phone and I had a text from jai saying "surprised you didn't come to the rescue this morning lol" I knew he was joking but why was he texting me? Shouldn't he be worrying about his life on the line? I texted him back "sorry:( hope you're okay." and hit the send button. was that too informal, was I being too friendly? was I.... before I could finish my thoughts the door bell rang. "fuck" I yelled out loud. I opened it and saw all three brothers standing there in a bit of a shock. "hey boys" I awkwardly smiled knowing they now knew I was a fake. "Hope what are you doing here, officer Winzer said his daughter would be home. where is she?" Luke asked. was he an idiot or..... "um she's not home right now that's why I'm here." why did I keep getting myself further into lies? I'm the idiot now! I showed the boys up to their new rooms. "there's only two rooms so you guys can choose who sleeps with who." I announced.

"I get my own!" beau yelled running into the first room down the hall.

"I guess we will have to share one Luke." jai said next.

"No! fuck that, I've shared a room with you my whole life! go sleep in Officer Winzer's daughter room or something" Luke then stuck his tongue out at jai, I couldn't help but giggle. What was I suppose to do when my dad got home in a few hours he would blow my whole cover. I had to tell the boys and hopefully would keep it all a secret! what's the worst that could happen? "Beau, luke, jai can you boys follow me downstairs, we need to talk it's important." they all nodded and followed me to the living room where we sat on the couches. They looked worried. "I have a confession to make."

"What is it Hope?" beau asked.

"I guess you could say I'm not who I say I am." I looked down.

"Yea we already kind of figured out you weren't really a police." Luke said.

"Wait what? how?" I was shocked.

"Well first of all you look around 18" Luke started "not really professional enough" beau interrupted. "also you text us a lot, well jai a lot" Luke said with a small laugh.

"Well there's a little more than that, just a few details actually. Yes I am 18, I'm also officer Winzer's daughter and I was only pretending to be a detective because I really wanna help find your mom and it would help me gain so experience, so could you PLEASE not tell my dad what I've been doing??" I said with a big cheesey smile.

"What's in it for us?" jai asked.

"I promise I will try my best to find your mom. I really promise." I was practically begging them.

"We'll do it" all three boys said in sync. So now that that was over with Luke Jai Beau and I started playing the Xbox. "Let's play fifia!" jai screamed with excitement. "I'm down" I said preparing to kick jais ass. After the first half I was down 2-1. Jai kept teasing me on how he was gonna win. "I bet you I win" jai said

"Wanna bet on that jai?" I smirked at him

"Yea I do wanna bet, okay so if I win this game I get to sleep in your bed instead of sharing a room with luke." he was pretty cocky but I'm not gonna lie it was pretty cute.

"Okay that's fair, BUT, if I win you have to sleep outside in the dogs house." we all laughed but jai.

"Oh okay it's like that? then it's on!" jai gripped onto the controller and started playing. within the first 2 minutes I tied the score 2-2. Back and forth of missing goals there was only 9 seconds left and jai had the ball, he ran it's to the goal, 5 seconds left, he misses the shot and my goalie head buts it half way across the field, 3 seconds left, my player takes it all the way down and scores on jai with one second left! the game was over "YES YES YES!! I WON!" I screamed.

"It's okay jai I'll help you move your stuff into the dogs house." beau laughed.

"A deals and deal." jai said putting his head down.

"Sorry jai but it's time for us to go to bed." Luke said pushing out the door into the cold.

"Night jai." I said with a half smile.

We all went upstairs besides jai of course. I got inside the warm covers and peaked out the window to see jai curled up in a little ball. I couldn't let him sleep outside but I couldn't let his brothers know he chickened out of the bet.
