Brooke: Be there in 10!

That was the message i received that sent me into a panic. I realized that i had slept through my alarm and Brooke was going to be here in ten minutes.

Not having time to shower, i ran to my closet and grabbed a random black shirt along with jeans and my Nike's. Brushing my hair, my teeth, and finishing it off with a mascara, i ran down the stairs making sure not to fall.

As i reached the bottom, i heard the front door slam. I came around the corner to enter the kitchen and saw my mom leaning against the counter with her face in her hands.

"Mom?"

She quickly sits up and wipes her face clean of tears.

"Everything okay?"

She clears her throat and then explained.

"Your father was just a bit upset. Nothing to worry about."

"Mom-" I was cut off by the sound of a horn outside.

"I'm okay, go to school."

"But-"

"Riley!" My mom said angrily.

I let out a sigh as i admitted there was no use arguing. If there were something to worry about, she would tell me, so i turned around and headed towards the door.

"Love you!" i yelled.

"Love you too!" i heard the faint voice as i closed the door.

"Took you long enough. I've been waiting for like 5 minutes." Brooke sighed as we pulled onto the road.

"Sorry."

"Everything alright with your dad. He seemed angry."

"Yeah, my parents just had a little argument."

Brooked laughed.

"Didn't seem little to me. Have they been doing that a lot?"

The way she was saying things was making me uncomfortable. She didn't sound like a concerned friend. She sounded like someone who wanted to hear about drama so she could gossip, but i kept going.

"Doing what?"

"Arguing." She said flatly.

I stayed silent as i replayed the days in the last month. The answer was.... Yes. My parents have been fighting a lot, but dont most parents? Its normal right?

"Do you think they are getting a divorce?" She said with an amused expression.

"What? No! It was just one argument!"

"Whatever, just saying, my parents argued a lot before they split."

I bit my tongue hard so i wouldn't spit the words in my mind out.

I stayed quiet the rest of the way, not wanting to continue any conversations.

"Do you guys have gluten free bread?" A red headed ditz asked.

"No, i'm sorry."

She looked back at the menu with a disgusted face.

"Fine, i'll just have a salad."

I scribbled down the orders and grabbed the menu off the table.

"Coming right up."

I hurried into the kitchen and hung up my ticket on the rack.
