Charlotte
It's been three days since the masquerade. I haven't heard anything from Adam. The night after the masquerade, he dropped me to my flat and he gave me a warm, soft kiss before he left. He didn't even give me any call or text ever since. I start to think that maybe Adam only comes when he needs me.
I already stare at my phone too many times, but still, no notifications from him.
"You want to pick children as our project ?" Benjamin asks. He is standing not far from me, with his hands on his hips.
"Yeah," I answer immediately. "I mean, children is something unpredictable. We always use adults as our project. How about children ?"
Benjamin doesn't give me any responses. He's pouting his thin lips, narrowing his eyebrows. "Whose children wants to be the part of this ?"
"We will use EEG, eye-tracking, and I don't think children will enjoy that." He argues.
"Come on, Benji!" I beg, standing up so now we're face to face. "Imagine if we can complete this project with children, Prof. Black will be proud of us."
He rolls his eyes. "Okay, fine."
I jump to him, giving him a light hug before letting him go and make our few seconds awkward. I can see Benji's face turns to red.
"Now, whose children wants to be the part of this ?" He breaks the awkward silence.
"We can go to the nearest kindergarten," I suggest. Suddenly, a wild idea crosses my mind. "Wait, you have a little sister, right ?"
"Pardon ?" He asks.
"You have a little sister, right ?" I repeat. "We can ask her to help us."
"No... no.. no..." Benjamin rejects, shaking his head hard. "Melody can't be the part of this."
"Why not ?" I ask. Melody is perfect for this project. She's about 9 or 10 years old if I'm not mistaken. To be honest, I never met her, but I'd love too. She seems sweet and I only know her from the picture in Benjamin's instagram.
"Melody is a very active girl and she will ask you a lot of questions and she can't stay still even for 5 seconds." He finally speaks up. "Remember, EEG machine is complicated, we're going to stick cables on her head, and we need her to stay still. I think it's impossible for us to study her."
"Come on," I beg. "I'm pretty good with kids. I believe she will be the sweetest girl."
Benjamin stares at the ceiling, he must be thinking about every consequence that might happen. He gives me a little look from the corner of his eyes. "Fine."
"Yes!" I jump in excitement again.
"But you need to take care of her," Benjamin says.
"No worries. I'll be as good as Mary Poppins."
