Benjamin
It's been months since the last time Charlie and I visited her house. She was so blue ever since. She didn't want to eat or get out of her room for almost a week. I've tried to call Adam but like always no answer. I guess he changed his number or he's dead somewhere. And since that, I decided to live here with her. The bed that used to be April's was empty and that's where I sleep.
"Charlie?" I knock.
"Hmm?" Charlie responds, still looking outside the window.
"We have an appointment with Dr Carter," I say. Every time I talk to her about her pregnancy, my heart breaks.
"Oh, yes," Charlie stands up from her chair. "Let me change my clothes first."
After she changed her clothes, she walks outside her room, finding me waiting for her in the living room. "Let's go."
I grab the bag from her hand and help her walk outside to the car. She always looks so pale and tired, but she always smiles too. I know she must be faking it. But I just hate to see her like this.
"We're here for Dr Carter, please," I say to the nurse.
"You must be Mr and Mrs Newton," the nurse reply. "Please wait here, I'll call you when Dr Carter is ready."
"We're not coup.." I don't have the chance to tell the nurse that we're not husband and wife. I'm a little confused since this is not our first appointment, I guess I already told her that we're not a couple.
"How are you feeling, Charlie?" I ask, helping her to sit in the waiting room.
"I'm great, Benjamin," Charlie answers, turning her head towards me. "I feel like eating chips with mayonnaise. Lots of it"
I giggle. "Okay, we'll make it right after this."
"Mrs Newton?" The nurse comes back and calls.
"I already told her that we're not a couple," I look at her.
"That's okay," she grins, standing up from the chair and walks inside the doctor's room.
"Good afternoon, Charlie," Dr Carter greets us. "How are you feeling?"
"Great, doctor," Charlie states, climbing the examination chair.
"We're going to do the usual check-ups before I can analyse the baby's condition," Dr Carter says.
"When will the labour day happen, doc?" Charlie asks as she lifts up her clothes to reveal her big baby bump.
"The baby is 32 weeks old," Dr Carter responds, rubbing some kind of gel to Charlie's belly before doing the ultrasound check. "Probably 5 to 6 weeks from now."
"Will you be delivering my baby?"
"I'll empty my schedule for you," Dr Carter expresses. "Ah, look! How pretty the baby is!"
