Adaline stomach performed somersaults

Adaline stomach performed somersaults. She didn't know if it was the pancake she ate this morning, or the fact it was her first day back at school since she was hospitalized. Her foot was tapping the ground at, what seemed liked, an inhuman pace. The idea of returning to this hell hole revolted her, especially when she gave thought to the people who were there.

"Miss Argent?"

Adaline pulled her gaze to the Vice Principal who called her name. He motioned for her to follow him, and she obliged, grabbing her bag which was on the seat to the right of her.

When she stepped into the office, her nose was filled with a familiar vanilla scent. It didn't smell like the rest of the school — school supplies and teenage BO — and Adaline couldn't place where she smelled it before. Ignoring her thoughts, Adaline went to sit down in one of the chairs facing the man.

"We are very glad to have you back, especially after last year's incident. I am certainly happy that you've overcome your illness," he said joyfully.

Adaline rolled her eyes at his statement. There wasn't any words that formed to make him understand what she went through. The Vice Principal didn't see her action as he was too busy retrieving her schedule.

"All of your classes and teachers are listed on the left along with their email, used for professional reasons. Your locker number and combo are on the right," he said, handing the piece of paper across the desk.

Adaline took the piece of paper from his grasp and began to gather her items.

"I would recommend giving," he began, handing her another piece of paper —a smaller one, "this to your first period teacher. Seeing as your are now late."

Adaline nodded and grabbed it, stuffing it into her bag. She quickly left the office and began to speed-walk down the school hall. The bland colors and the smell of school supplies, once again, made her stomach twist. It didn't take long to reach her locker and spin in the numbers. She glanced down at her schedule and saw English with Mr. Fitz was first. Now she was convinced she knew something was familiar. The smell of vanilla and the name. It was connected, but she didn't know how.

By the time she reached the classroom, he was already in the action of teaching. Adaline inhaled through her nose and exhaled through her mouth.

"You can do this. You're Adaline Argent, and Alison said you can do anything," she said under her breath. She rolled her eyes at her words. Anytime any brought up Alison, a switch flicked in Adaline's mind that made her pissed off.

She took another deep breath and opened the door. Instantly, all eyes were on her, and she regretted everything.

"Sorry, Mr. Fitz," she said quietly.
