Life is not fair. And five girls in the small town of Rosewood, Pennsylvania, knew this all too well. They were fighting tooth and nail to discover the truth, only for it to be ripped away from them like a car driving away in the night. After the unfair disappearance of their best friend, they lost who they were, changing themselves and losing touch. The sudden arrival of A reminded them of the people they used to be : five girls who desired answers to their questions.Their number one question : who is A?
One girl knew the truth. But before it could be shared with the rest, A shut her up in the form of a hit and run. Hit Hanna and run away, or better yet drive away. The others were left in terror to see their friend wheeled away to an ambulance.
Adaline could only hear white noise. The voices of the onlookers and her friends mixed with the sounds of the sirens, leaving her to be utterly terrified. Her eyes darted amongst the crowd, looking for anyone in a black hoodie that could match A's description. Surely A would come back and make sure they finished the job. Right? Unfortunately, most of the people serving as suspects were Mona's campers, so they all wore her hoodie. Though, looking back through the crowd, Adaline saw a familiar face, but it didn't fit in with the other girls. But as soon as she saw it, it was gone.
"Are you okay to drive?" asked Spencer, pulling Adaline out of her thoughts. She grabbed her elbow gently, but firm enough to reason with her.
"Yes," whispered Adaline, nodding her head. Together, Adaline and Spencer walked back to her car as Aria and Emily walked back to their own.
At the hospital, Adaline was unable to get a hold of her dad over the phone. So, as her friends all spoke to the parents and such, Adaline waited. She paced back and forth in the waiting room, eager to hear any news. Time passed, and she grew more and more impatient. Suddenly, Hanna's mom emerged into the room.
All four girls surrounded her like vultures. "Is she okay, Ms. Marin?"
Ashely took in a shaky breath. "She's going to be alright. She um...She has a broken leg and a broken ankle, bruised ribs and, uh, they might have to remove her spleen."
The girls were relieved for the most part. Though Hanna was going to go through troubles the next couple months, she would be alive. And hopefully she could remember everything.
"What happened?" asked Ashely, shaking her head like what was happening wasn't true. The girls shared a look. They very well couldn't tell the whole truth without revealing that they were being stalked by A, and A hit her to shut her up.
"Hanna was coming across the parking lot," said Adaline, starting off the lie. "And this car just came out of nowhere."
Ashely closed her eyes, trying her best not to imagine that horrible action happening towards her daughter. "Well, the police found the car. They said it was stolen."
